Installing after market trailer hitch...good idea?
I'm looking to buy an older Cayenne, either Turbo or GTS, 2008-2010 era. Seems like it's hard to find one with a factory tow package, at least anywhere near me. I know it's possible to do it after market, what I'm wondering is, is it recommended? Or should I just wait to find a factory installed one.
I'd be towing about 4-5K, both travel trailer and boat. Thanks in advance for any advice. PS: I know some replies will be along the lines of just buy a truck. I already have a truck, but in some instances we (family and I ) may want to tow two things at once (aforementioned boat and rv) and I don't want a second truck, and always wanted a Cayenne

Where are you located?
I have a factory tow bar/bumper-beam that I never installed.

I installed an aftermarket Curt Tow Hitch.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cayenne-macan-forum/792114-factory-tow-module-curt-trailer-hitch-installed-440-a.html All went well, but in hindsight I should have sourced an OEM hitch. My 2005 Cayenne is rated at 7716 pounds. The Curt is only rated to 6000 lbs. I went through the trouble to install a factory tow harness. I wish I had an original hitch, using an aftermarket hitch, I sacrificed 1716 lbs of towing capacity.

I installed mine on my 06 Cayenne S, not difficult at all. Just needed to modify rear valance to allow clearance for the hitch. Wiring was a bit more work but not bad, I tapped off the rear lights to get my signal.

My family installed a fifth wheel hitch before to tow an RV. I remember it was easy to do and modify.
