2008 Cayenne V6 - Valve cover gasket
 

My 2008 Cayenne V6 with 68,000 miles has a leaky valve cover gasket.
The shop wants $600 to replace it.

I would like to do it myself. The gasket set is under $30
I found a video on Youtube, where the repair is shown but the technician does not explain what he is doing. I understand most of the process however he disconnects and removes the injectors. Then he uses a special tool to replace the seals on the injectors (?)

Does anyone have a good write up on how to do this repair?
Do the injectors have to come out and be taken apart?

I have seen the same video and also wondered what the tool is and if the DIYer could get ahold of it.

Wonder if you could just slide the o-rings on by hand without the tool, or just skip it if the issue isn't the injectors.

I did my 06 Cayenne S not long ago, it was not too bad but there is one or two valve cover screws that you need a small tool or custom tool rigged to do it. You have to be carefully with the harness and lifting and removing the valve covers to not bend the camshaft position indicators. Basically lift up as high as possible, make sure to clear at the rear and then slide out, the harness will limit how high you can lift. Looks scary but overall not too hard. Alex

Does the Cayenne S have a V6 or V8?
Mine has a 6 cylinder engine. It is my understanding that this engine is a VW VR6 engine.
It has one valve cover and a huge intake plenum that covers the entire engine and needs to come out to get to the valve cover.
I haven't figure out what to do yet. I am concerned that I may have to remove the fuel injectors and can't find enough information about it.

The V8 has easier access to the valve cover gaskets (2).
The V6 is actually the VW VR6 engine, I guess with some Porsche mods.
The intake spans from the driver's side of the engine to the passenger side and completely blocks the narrow V6 valve cover.
I watched a video on Youtube about the disassembly, without sound. The tech removes the fuel injectors however just before getting to the injectors he removes a screw that is in a crevice. Ther e is no explanation for the screw removal or if there are several.
Basically the video is of little use to a DIY guy.
I am in search of a decent repair manual. The local Indy, wants $600 + for this work.
