955 Cayenne Base 3.6L Valve Cover Replacement (2009)

Today I started the project I will refer to as “OMG am I in to deep…??”

Not really, just a test of my patients and exactly how many more tools I will need to buy.

A few weeks ago the idle started surging up to 1800 RPM after the engine warmed up.
Recorded several codes and a misfire on #6 cylinder. Codes indicate a lean fuel mixture.

Quick search and the problem appears to be a failed diaphragm in the valve cover, crankcase vent valve.

Once I started disassembly, it was very apparent a fair amount of oil is in the intake.

This is not a complicated project, it is difficult to access the bolts necessary to remove the intake manifold. The problems engine on the left side of the engine because the electrical harness mounts and the vacuum lines/pipes.

Any advice or tips for success will be greatly appreciated.

A torque pattern for the valve cover would be helpful.

Manifold removed.

Here’s the consequences of a bad design or inferior part.... of course I’m just making an assumption.

Own the Cayenne with a 3.6 L V6?

I’d look for oil in the intake/ throttle body today and address it.

Yes. The diagram in the valve cover had failed. The entire intake system is coated in oil.

This should help if you find yourself in the same position I’m in.
