Your Reccomendations
 
Hello; I need your reccomendations please. I am looking at purchasing a Cayenne, and have two really nice options, however need your reccomendation:

Option 1 - 2010 Cayenne Base V6 with 77,000 miles.

Option 2 - 2010 Cayenne GTS V8 with 110,000 miles.

Both are in excellent condition and similar price range. I prefer the GTS because of the V8 power and interior features, but worry about the mileage and reliability. I will use the vehicle as a daily driver with trips to the mountains for skiing.

Any thoughts / reccomendations?

everything else being equal (maintenance, tires, interior, drivability ) i'd go with the V-6 - unless you plan on towing up in the hills it should have enough power - my wife's ford edge V-6 is similar and doesn't struggle in the colorado mountains - now if you want to go VROOM around town the GTS will do that (but you do have 2 other cars to do that) - things do start to go wrong as these age and those 33K more miles could be a factor on the GTS - either way..enjoy the ride

Option 1, i have a cayenne s with high miles but it took me alot to do the upkeep. Fortunately, i did all my own repairs, love the car.

GTS, w/o a doubt.

The air suspension is so nice to have. Beyond that it is likely to have many other niceties above the base model.

Do you have interior pictures?

Thanks for your input...So, I went with the GTS. First and foremost, wow it drives and feels amazing. The interior was like getting into my C4S, except the headliner in the GTS has to be the largest single piece of alcantara fabric I have ever seen. I wish I could defy gravity and roll around naked on that headliner!!! The seats are BEAUTIFUL, and the dash reminds me of the C4S with the leather stitching and the aluminum bezels around the gauges. And an all aluminum 32V direct injected PORSCHE V8? Can you even GET a Porsche V8 new in the show room any more? No my friends, in the years to come these cars will never be this affordable again and maybe the Porsche V8 will become as rare and sought after as a "4 cam"? Ok, probably not. :)

A close friend of mine recently bought a brand new E-Hybrid Cayenne, and even he is jealous of my V8. And its noted that his E-Hybrid only has 40 more HP or something, although its true he does get better fuel economy, I get a bigger smile when I turn the key (yes, I actually turn a key, which is on the left and very cool, prefer over pushing a button)

This also happened to be a one owner GTS that has been maintained by the same Porsche dealership since new, and it has been maintained like an aircraft. Even the valve cover gaskets have been recently replaced! I will post some more pics over the weekend when I get it home and "move in" to my new daily driver. Interestingly, it's at the Porsche dealership getting a few things taken care of that were identified in the PPI, but even there the technician was directed to park this 10 year old SUV at the front of the dealership right next to some 993's and 996 GT3's and it made for a very good PR shot.

I have heard and read a lot about these Porsche SUV's over the years. I consider myself a Porsche "purist", and was disappointed when Porsche came out with a "water cooled" car, I scoffed first generations of 996's before I drove one, and then bought one and am now completely converted. I criticized Porsche for "selling out" when they made an SUV, but once again I have been proved wrong, I love this vehicle and consider myself extremely fortunate to have discovered this often underrated gem.

I definitely think you made the right decision, maintenance throughout the cars lifetime would be the most important factor for how it will hold up under your ownership.

The GTS definitely offers more of an experience, between the German V8 and sporty interior (your comments on the headliner had me cracking up).

I have owned a Cayenne S for the past 10 years. It is a 2008 model I bought used. In retrospect I feel that it has constantly had something that needed fixing all the time. Air bag, front suspension, dash multi display, passenger seat weight sensor, under dash wiring harness etc. Note, very, very few issues with the engine. The 4.8 L V8 engine is probably the most reliable thing about the car. Your choice of the V8 appears to be a good one. All the other issues will be common to both models.

V6 vs V8
 
We took the opposite tack and went with a Certified V6 Cayenne. Since my wife does most of the driving these days (medical conditions currently preclude my driving), she doesn‘t care about performance and appreciated 25 mpg on the Highway. After years of 911s and 914-6s, this is our first watercooled Porsche. It certainly is much more complicated than my previous Porsches!

More complicated! Yes! I always heard that German cars were over engineered. Sometimes it works and some times it doesn't. They are certainly the result of over-thinking. They seem to be lacking in the #1 rule of engineering: KISS-Keep it Simple Stupid. I own two Porsches and will probably never own another. I'll keep the old one because you can practically disassemble the whole car with nothing but the tool roll. The newer one will go. Three to four weeks to get a part and then that part is half the value of the car.

I am in a similar dilemma, kind off.

What would you choose between:

A 2014 V6 platinum edition with 63,300 miles for $29,000
Vs a 2013 V8 with 99,000 miles for $26,000

Both in very nice condition, similar interiors and options (moonroof). The V6 has a Tow hitch, which is a plus I was looking for.
