wiring insulation falling off
I went to replace the high beam bulb on a 2004, & found the bulb was fine. The problem is, the insulation is literally falling off of the wiring in the body & inside the headlight housing. Not just 1 or 2 wires, but all of them. I'm thinking this could get ugly in a hurry.
Has anyone experienced anything like this? Many thanks, Kurt |
Years ago Mercedes had a similar problem. The technicians referred to it as Bio-degradable Harness. My SIL had one, that I worked on for her. It was across all of their models. I think it was early to late 90’s. While at freeway speeds the engine would stop. No power steering, no power brakes. She took it to a shop and they wanted more than the car was worth. I found a deal on three harness that needed replacement and did the work. The plastic insulation crumbled. Why there weren’t recall amazes me.

Yes. It's pretty common. Our 955 had it when we bought it. We tried fixing the wires but eventually gave up and ordered new lights and new wiring harnesses. One bonus: shiny new lights! :_ https://teamilluminata.com/blogs/timsyberia/just-gimme-the-light-and-spend-the-doe ..... |
I know this is an older post, however is it still an issue? I seem to recall being told that was ended at some point.

My 06 Cayenne S had this issue on one of my headlights, I used liquid plastic to coat and insulate the broken wires since getting electrical tape wrapped was tough considering the space to work in.
