Side View Mirror Convenience Light LED Upgrade
While finishing up a problem with my folding driver side view mirror I noticed my convenience light was out.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cayenne-macan-forum/1116184-folding-mirror-inop.html Accessing this bulb is surprisingly easy and the upgrade takes less than 5 minutes. 1) Make sure the mirrors are extended. 2) Remove the mirror (Wayne has a write up how to do this) 3) Using bird beak pliers wiggle the socket out of the lamp 4) Using an automotive grade blade LED bulb place the new LED bulb in the socket MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT POLARITY or the bulb won’t work. The OEM bulb is a Sylvania 2825 5) Lock and unlock your door to verify it works. 6) Assembly is the reverse of disassembly You do NOT need to remove the top cover of the side view mirror. I chose to use contact cleaner on the electrical wiring. I should note that the LED bulb I installed gives light in 360 degrees. They do sell LED blade bulbs that concentrate light downward. I may pick up a couple of those bulbs and see the difference. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1654101196.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1654101368.jpg New LED bulb illuminated http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1654101476.jpg Original Incandescent bulb http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1654101608.jpg |
Here are some photos I borrowed off Amazon of the LED lights optimized for this application.
