When the 911 came out, Pcar owners argued about its design and whether or not it met the standards of the 356. Some even argued that the 911 would bankrupt Porsche, that the quality wasn't right, that Porsche had lost it's way, and (if you can believe it) it was ugly compared to the immortal Kommenda design.
Twenty years from now, some will see the Cayenne as the high point of SUV design and be proud of it. And some lucky owners will be bragging about paying 10K for the superior design of their 20 yr old SUV that matches then current technology.... with patina and style!

It should be the high point in SUV design... considering the price. -MAS

I shudder to think of the day when 'classic' vehicles will be equipped with archaic GPS and adaptive cruise control. One of the reasons we value our old 911s is because they were mechanically innovative upon introduction. Vehicles today are electronically innovative for the most part. Although electronics tend to evolve much more quickly than mechanics, they also do fail at a higer rate. Imagine the resto cost for twenty year old blind spot cameras!
