How did mankind survive without suv's? It must have been a harsh life...

A little OT rant on the Cayenne

If you have seen any of my other posts you know I am not in favor of those things and here is why.

The argument that Porsche needed that SUV to stay independent is a farce if you stop and think about it.

The Cayenne and Toureg are built on the same platform with the major difference being the engine, everything else that matters (not sheet metal) is pretty much the same.

Porsche recently added the V6 option which is powered by a VW engine. So it really is a rebadged VW.

VW had announced some time back (per Autoweek) that the proposed Audi and Lamborghini SUV's would be based on the Toureg platform and per another Pelican member Ferrari chose the VW Toureg platform for their up coming Maserati SUV as they felt it was the best platform out there.

So in Porsche staying independent they are just like the masses, No car in Porsche's history shared platforms with other manufactures (except 914)

Why stay independent if you are just going to have a rebadged VW product.

Rant mode off.

Well, I do not know, but what I can tell you is that I test drived one of these baby, and that (appart for the tip tronic box), I have to admit that it is a nice car, it goes fast, is gutsy, handles pretty good....

so, all in all, I would still not buy one (too expenseive for me, plus I still do not like SUVs), but I have to admit that it is up to porsche standards...

Never said they didn't do a good job, The Cayenne is a great VW / Audi / Lamborghini / Maserati / Porsche

Just like the Jaguar X type is a great Lincoln LS / Ford Mustang / Ford Taurus or the Volvo S or V40 is a great Ford Focus

It got moved because it was blatant flamebait. Most of the Cayenne threads that don't get moved start with legitimate technical or newsworthy content (although they inevitably veer off-subject and turn into the same tired old 'Porsche shouldn't build an SUV' thread ..... ) Hell, half the threads on the "911 Technical Forum" have nothing to do with technical subjects and/or 911's.

Might wanna take a look at the "Caption This Photo" thread started by Wayne himself in the 911 Tech Forum, Tim!!

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?threadid=146828

Does that have more technical or newsworthy merit than the four threads you posted above? Does it have something to do with 911's? I'm sure you'll notify Wayne of his transgression.

were allowed to languish on the 911 board over the last few months without being moved?

Is this the dawn of a glorious new era of 911 board moderation, wherein Cayenne threads with no appreciable 911 content will finally begin to be moved to the Cayenne board with some regularity?

Hope springs eternal...:)

Tim

I try to move all Cayenne-related threads to the Cayenne forum; it doesn't matter whether they're technical or insulting in nature. Sorry my (free of charge) moderation efforts are not up to your demanding standards.

And from what I've noticed, the insult threads generally degenerate into the haters hating and the owners feeling defensive. I don't think I've ever seen owners insulting that haters.

cegerer 02-03-2004 03:53 PM

Let's be realistic. Anything posted on the Cayenne Forum might as well not be posted at all. Nobody's going to see it and those that do only come to the C-forum to post insults (which are never removed). The very, very few times I've posted a Cayenne-related thread on the 911 board, I always try to make sure the title indicates clearly that the thread is Cayenne-related - that way, people can easily NOT CLICK on the thread ..... for some reason tho, the "haters" seem to be drawn like magnets to these threads anyway ..... I never post anything to incite others.

And you probably know I post quite a bit of 'vintage' Porsche racing info and photos I find interesting and hope a few others might too. Most of these have nothing to do with 911's, but they never get moved??????????? They should probably be posted or moved to the "Track Racing" forum where nobody will see them.

Oh well, have a great day guys. -- Curt

I just thought the pics were funny... I certainly didn't mean to start a riot! :(

I do have a comment on the 911 Technical Forum though. It's true that probably half of the posts are of a technical nature and the others are just 911 owners yacking back and forth to each other about a variety of stuff. Personally, I love to share thoughts and funny pictures with my 911 brothers since we all have one thing in common (and probably more) and we all act like old friends on the board. Maybe the problem isn't the post, it's the name of the forum. Does it have to be the "technical forum" or could it just be the "911 owners forum"...? Just a thought. :)
