Cayenne Buying Advice

Boys,

Besides those who will say "don't buy it", are there any boardmembers/Cayenne Owners who have insight into the Cayenne purchasing process or wisdom they would like to impart regarding the process or the vehicle. Please note that no 911,930,or965 will be sacrificed for this purchase.

I'm unloading my beloved Lincoln LS Sport in favor of a new vehicle. On my way dowm to the local Benz dealer, i\I had to stop at Braman Porsche and atleast look at the Cayennes. The truck is beautiful and I'm very tempted to buy a 2004 base Cayenne. No S or Turbo.

If you have any words that may empower me during the sales process or any practical comments on accessories or beating the crap out of the sales guy, please reply. Sincerely.

I understand you dont want to hear..."dont buy it"., but have you considered the VW Toureg instead? I personally like the looks of the Toureg better...mechanically it is almost identical w/ the obvious exception being less horsepower/performance suspension/etc.

If performance is not a main criteria for buying an SUV, I dont see the lodgic in paying the huge sticker associated w/ the Porsche name....

So back to your question about "words that may empower you in the sales process"....talk to a VW salesman for essentially the same car and you will kick around much smaller numbers

How to buy a Cayenne? Back into dealership...bent over, pants down, jar of vaseline offered in your left hand...right hand saved for signing the papers.... I'm sure you'll look cool pulling into the golf club parking lot in one. Yes, I HATE CAYENNES AND THE "IMAGE" THEY PRESENT! I'll admit it...now, why didn't this thread begin on the Cayenne board????

Figured it out, have you Curt? I like your "gray ghost" Targa...your other car? It's just another SUV...perhaps the most expensive & fastest SUV...but still, just another SUV. There is a place here for Cayenne lovers to get together....but the 911 board ain't it!

Agreed. This board isn't open-minded enough to even accept 996 owners, much less someone wanting to buy a Cayenne. But I also highly recommend reposting in the Cayenne forum.

I'll let it stay here for the moment since the locals need something to chew up and spit out for a while.

The only question you need to ask the dealer is:

"Is that yer best price?"

That's a silly statement. Why so consumed about images others are presenting or perceived images? I am sure a lot of people say the same thing about Porsche owners in general. If you gotta have an SUV, the Cayenne is a great way to go. A lot of fun to drive and a heck of a tow vehicle.

I saw one of those "Cayennes" yesterday on my commute home. Actually, a Cayenne Turbo, not the (really) slow one.

He was doing 50 in the fast lane of a three lane freeway, talking into his phone headset. I counted seven cars stacked up behind him.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

5000 lbs is a lot to ask a Golf engine to drag around.
More like 6,000...needs to weigh 6,000 or above to get the 100% tax break for biz owners...sad but true...

Oh well I saw a balding, overweight middle aged man with a ponytail who can't get finance on a newer car trying to pick up chicks half his age driving a red widebody slantnose 80's carrera.

There, stereotype balance is temporarily restored.

Visit Porsche's home page.

I would visit the Porsche NA site and click on the "Porsche Configurator". Go through all the options, color selections, etc. Unlike other mfgs., Porsche is notorious for advertising a base price then charging for everything that is standard on most luxury vehicles. For example, items like memory and heated seats is optional on the Cayenne while it's standard on my 740.

I was playing around with the configurator after trying out a S model and by the time I finished listing the options I wanted, the $55,000 base price was up to $69,000. How do you say "no way in he(( " in German.

I think to add the active suspension (which lowers the car at speed) is like $3200.

Why would you want a base Cayenne? I can understand an S or Turbo...there is some serious performance. But the base model with the 6 banger does 0-60 in what, 10 seconds? wtf? Why have a Porsche with those kind of numbers?

I'm not flaming the Cayenne in general...just the logic of the low end model.

HOOT! Not everybody who can afford them wants a Cayenne, or a 996 or a Boxter. Why go through the hassles of financing when you could write the check? Young chicks? Even if one followed me home, Cindy wouldn't let me keep her...Widebody slantnose cars? Well, does the name Carol Doda ring a bell? If not, have you ever seen any "Miami Vice" reruns? Ponytails? I think they are cute...on young chicks this old balding fat guy doesn't try to pick up. Stereotypes aside...the Cayenne is a sports ute. A sports ute is a sports ute is a....
