Own work on '04/'05/'06?
 

Anybody doing their own work/regular maintenance on their Cayenne? Is this a truck to buy and keep up without the help of a high cost dealership? Especially brakes, oil, plugs etc.,

How has reliabilty been for some of the earlier models listed in the title?

I've done brakes plugs and oil. (2004 CS) The oil changes are the most surprisingly involved --just because of the aero covers that need to come off.

Tools are different - lots of torx drives and sockets. Also, needed a Durametric computer (software & cable) link to reset the service warning. ($287) ...maybe another $60 for the torx drives

One trip to the dealer for an oil change will cost the same as the Durametric tool..... Doing the maintenance work yourself will pay for itself in a few services.

One word of caution, don't drain the front diff. thinking its the front pan drain.

You have replaced a few items that I wouldn't think would need it...but good to hear you guys can/have done yourself. I just did all bearings on the Explorer which wasn't too bad...other than the screwdriver I stuck in my chin...but that's a different post. Nothing like a doctor laughing at you with a gash in your chin from your own stupidity. Anyway, I have been given the green light to replace the Explorer...wife likes the Cayenne! Only black and chrome though...of course I have instructions!

Same as you SCOTITUDE, this will be a daily driver and a tow vehicle for some of the toys. If a Cayenne beats a 911 back to my garage, I guess it's not the end of the world! :)
