$1,615 Fuel Pump Replacement after 24K miles
Just Sharing my Experience with the group; The point of this thread is
DRIVE YOUR DAMN CAR! Ok here is My Story . . . My 2005 Cayenne is a real garage queen. I custom ordered new in 2005 and it only has 24,000 miles on it. That averages to about 4,800 miles a year. We take the car out a couple of times a month for family outings, When not on the road she is in a climate controlled garage under a car cover. Last weekend my wife and I took a 250 mile round trip to Palm Springs and back. The car ran great. However, on Wednesday when I tried to take her out for a spin the engine started, rough idled for 4-5 seconds, then the car died. I hooked up my Durametric Scanner and got the following codes; P2187 System at idle Bank 1 PRESENT P2187 System at idle Bank 1 NO SIGNAL/COMMUNICATION PRESENT P2189 System at idle Bank 2 PRESENT P2189 System at idle Bank 2 NO SIGNAL/COMMUNICATION PRESENT I called AAA had it flat bedded to Rusnak Pasadena where Scott my friendly Service adviser informed me that after 24,000 miles one of the fuel pumps went bad. This is what the service tech report said "Fuel pumps have stopped operating are not responding to voltage applied. Check faults NONE STORED Check fuel pressure NOT OK Initial pressure pf 60 PSI then steadily drops to 10 PSI and car dies. Check Relay circuit OK Check power at pumps OK Replace fuel pumps and test drive OK" The two fuel pumps cost $255.97 each, $2.81 to replace a superseded Angled fuel pipe and a WHOPPING $1050 in Labor. Fortunately I have a year and a half left on my Extended Warranty (boy am I glad I got that) which covered $1032 of the bill which left me the remaining $583. I asked the service writer how a fuel pump can go bad after only 24,000 miles and he told me "I don't know." When I suggested if driving the car more might have prevented the break down he said "Couldn't hurt." The Moral of this story DRIVE YOUR DAMN CAR!! (of course my car now sits in the garage under her car cover. . .)

Probably would not hurt... but I doubt that is the cause, your ~ of 300 miles a month is not exactly "storage" numbers.

Sorry I missed something, why did you have to pay anything?
Seems foolish to me, and I would complain to Porsche directly.

The total bill was $1,600
The warranty covered a little more than $1000 I paid $583 The service writer said the extended warranty did not cover everything. I need to go over my warranty policy to figure out why something wasn't covered

That's totally bogus, I would be raising a huge stink and get them to eat everything. If you get a copy of the warranty (which Porsche does not share) post it here. It was a Porsche CPO warranty wasn't it?

NO not a CPO. I bought the car new. I bought the extended warranty.
You are right, I need to do a little more research on what the warranty does and does not cover
