2005 Cayenne Purchase Input

Hi, hoping for some advice -

I'm looking at an 05, 3.2L 6 speed Cayenne with around 75K on it.

A couple of questions - what life have you seen out of the original clutch?

Trouble areas to look for this year and engine?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can't speak to the manual, but the common errors/problems are the coolant tubes - they should have been replaced to even consider the vehicle. As well as the cardan shaft.

I would also find out how much oil it uses as some use a lot more than other due to cylinder manufacturing.

As always a good PPI is important along with a good service history.

I was under the impression this doesn't apply to 6 cylinders?

I also think that the coolant pipe issue is for the v8 only

Coolant tubes are only for 8 cylinders. The trouble areas that you will see are coil packs, fuel pumps, and the driveshaft center support bearng. All of which will most likely go in the next 10 to 20 thousand miles unless they have already been changed. You will also notice that it seems to eat through tires and brakes like you change your socks, a friend of mine from Porsche said this is because it is a heavy truck seems logical to me. Also something that I have never seen mentioned that seems to happen to every Cayenne, the rear tail lights crack along the top edge allowing them to fill up with water. I think there might be to much flex back there. If you check the tail lights I bet you will see moisture in them. Mine seems to have some electrical gremlins from time to time but nothing major. I have had mine for 8 years and it has 120k miles on it. It has the V6 and I use this truck for everything I even towed a trailer from NY to Virgina that was full with 4 adults in the car and it performed flawlessly. I also use it to tow my two ATVs to the trails and again works great. I can only speak for myself but I do love this car and would most likely by another one. Repair costs are a little high I just did a brake job doing the labor myself parts alone from Porsche were almost $500. Driveshaft center support will cost about $400 doing the work yourself and fuel pumps about $700 replacing both with the filter. Coils and plugs about $300.
