2004 Cayenne S downshift thug
I just purchased a 2004 Cayenne S 122K and it arrived today. I tested it before i purchased it and never felt the downshift issue.
I drove it off the ferry this am and now when you slow down you can really feel the downshift thug. Anyone know or have any ideas whats going on? Cardan Shaft / Valve body? Dont have a porsche shop on the island so its me and my buddy. Thanks in advance for the help! Francis Kodiak, AK |
The shaft noise is located directly below the console (a lot of banging around) and usually occurs under hard acceleration. I didn't notice any down shifting thug type of problem. I have 04 T and the wife has an 06 S which doesn't have enough miles on it for the problem to show up yet.

Mine just happens when it automatically downshifts in low speeds, below 30mph I believe. Up shifts are perfect though.

I guess it's intermittent since I drive it around town today and never felt it, don't know what's up ....

It sounds like your trans valve body needs to be replaced. If you google "Porsche Cayenne Valve Body" you will find tons of info.
Trying going up a hill in automatic mode so you are in 4th gear and then give it a bit of gas so it down shifts into 3rd. You should hear that noise. Mine does it under load (up hills & sometimes passing) but shifts fine around town. I just bought mine too. |
JB,
Thanks for the info, thats what i thought too. so far if you dont punch it its drives fine. Now am having dashboard issues, not starting on first try, heater does not turn on. think i need a new battery. Read on Rennlist that if the PCM starts showing weird stuff that it might be the battery. Am starting to like my 84 911 targa better, Francis |
