Wondering if anyone had this happened to them. I own a 2005 Turbo I arrived home last night from work at 11:30 pm parked the Cayenne in the garage. I then went outside to clear some snow from the walkway that took about 30 minutes. As I began walking inside my home I heard a loud bang coming from the garage. I discovered the hatch window had shattered! Any thoughts as to why? Did not find anything inside hatch that would of hit glass or on the garage floor.
The other great news is that I called a glass company and it's a dealer item only. Glass alone $826.00, ouch! ![]()

Well glass was delivered on Thursday by Porsche. Scheduled install through local auto glass company for today, Monday. They arrived took apart hatch and the tech told me he was unable to replace due to reprogramming issues after he installs glass. I called Porsche scheduled install for tomorrow. Now they told me they don't think anything had to be reprogrammed but if need be they will take care of it. So I was paying $150 to local glass tech. Now! I have to pay $325 to Porsche. This amount does not include reprogramming if it needs it.

Shattered window
Well! As I'm driving to the dealer I see smoke, yes! smoke! inside the front compartment. I pulled over opened the hood and there is more smoke coming from both sides of the engine compartment. I drove to the shop placed the Cayenne on the lift looked underneath and discovered the valve covers were leaking. So I called the dealer to cancel appointment and I ordered the gaskets to take care of valve covers that cost me $87.00 and they offered to send the installer to me. Two Installers arrived at 9:00 and left at 12:15. According to installers this was the first '05 Cayenne they replaced a rear hatch glass and that it wasn't an easy install. It took two installers and one of my techs to complete install. They came without the proper tools. They were using a vise grip to remove a bolt and my my tech jumped in and told them he had the proper tool to remove the rear wiper. By the way glass replacement did not require programming. I had called other installers but they all said they would pass up on it. Anyway glass replacement cost me $826.00 and $300 for install. I still don't know how the glass shattered. As the installer said he never replaced one and he is an installer the dealer uses. I just hope it doesn't happen again! ![]()

Wanted to show the old glass with frame before I threw away. They don't replace the glass. The entire frame and glass is replaced. I guess this is why it cost so much.

I had a glass table top on my back deck. If I was not standing in the door when it broke I would have swore one of the kids had hit it. This happened in the summer time . Shattered glass everywhere...

I once had a Chevy S-10 Blazer that I bought real cheaply. It had a plywood rear window in it, I soon found out why. The replacement rear window lasted about 2 weeks before just shattering one day. I put in another $110. window myself, it lasted about three days. I put in a plywood panel and sold the truck never knowing how or why........just glad to see it go. Hope it won't happen to you again.

I'm a bit concerned so I have it parked in the garage. I'm using my Jeep with all this snow in CT. I just hope it doesn't happen again!
