CHeck Engine light 2005 Turbo

My oldman just bought a 2005 Turbo, encountered a check engine light this morning.
Any thoughts on how to trouble shoot this. Can you disconnect the battery and reset the comp without creating more issues? Any thoughts would be great, he lives 3 hours from the nearest dealer?

Thank you!

An OBD-II scanner can read the codes and get you started on diagnosis, as well as clearing the light. A lot of auto parts stores sell scanners for reasonable prices. Some stores will lend you the scanner or help you use it to read the codes. Without knowing the code that caused the CEL, you're stabbing in the dark trying to guess the mechanical cause of it. The Cayenne Turbo can get a CEL from something as simple as not having the gas cap sealed perfectly.
