Looking for tips on a used Cayenne purchase

I am looking at 2004-2006 Cayennes, either the S or the Turbo.

I'm in California but my search is national. I plan to get a PPI no matter what, but how do Cayenne undercarriages handle salt? Are there any big-ticket repairs that should absolutely have been done by now? Any concerns about mileage? Any areas to check for likely problems?

Thanks for the advice!

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

I just went thru the same process. I ended up buying mine in Pittsburgh and I couldn't be happier. I did have the same question about the salt but aside from some minor surface rust, the Cayenne's seem to handle it well. First step is to get a PPI. The previous owner took it to his local Porsche dealer and emailed me the report. That is the first step. Second is to make sure you get the history of the car and maintenance records. Carfax is not a bad idea either. Mileage doesn't seem to be an issue with these, mine has 80,000 and drives like new. Last is take a look what the common issues on these cars are. Coolant pipes leaking, center support bearing on the carden shaft, and ignition coils. Mine had two of the three done, need to do the support bearing. The Porsche Buyers Guide for 2013-2014 gives all the details on buying any Porsche.

Good luck and I hope this helps.

For the same reasons, I purchased one from Florida. I was looking at 06 CS and my wife pushed me towards a 08 CGTS. I love it! I had some issues with the dealer but I have resolved almost all of them. Shipping is not going to be cheap for you. I was in Florida anyway and decided to drive it home. I bought a friend a ticket to fly down and we drove home.

Thanks, really appreciate the input. Narrowing down the search now.
