Cayenne passenger wipers are garbage.
Just FYI, be super careful and maybe watch the glass shop if you need your windshield replaced. These things are a terrible design with terrible materials.
Ready to be rid of this car. /rant |
Forgot to post the insult to injury.
The wipers were updated in the 2008 models. That's now all the dealer sells. But to switch to those, you have to buy both sides, all the linkage, etc. Not only a pain to replace, but was quoted $800+ for all the parts to do it. Got a passenger wiper from a junkyard, and it had the same issue, and that was after the other 2 yards I tried to get one from telling me theirs were ruined upon removal and inspection. |
So, not your not really clear on your specific issue with the wipers or how they are garbage. Was your issue with the wiper arm or the blade? I havent seen a wiper arm go bad on a cayenne. Early cayenne wiper blades and arms are still available from the dealer. Perhaps your specific dealership did not keep them on the shelf, but we have 3 sets of blades on our shelf. Just because your glass shop or the "yard" cannot remove a part without breaking it doesnt mean its garbage. We subcontract our windshield work and havent ever had an issue with the tech breaking anything, and we pull them quite often ourselves without issue. Sounds like you've just had a run of bad luck. Not the cayenne's fault.

The early arms are NLA from the 4 dealers I talked to. Have to upgrade to the 2008+ system, which is where the $800 in parts come in.
The second arm which is there to make the wiper have the different sweep vs. the normal arc has a small D shaped hole, if the hole gets hogged out, it won't hold and turn the shaft properly. the power arm can be a problem too, as the hex washer that is supposed to be a press fit will often slip. This is at least fixed easily enough with some JBWeld. The glass shop ruined the originally one by not stacking the washers properly. It worked for about 6 months, then hogged out. Then it took 3 shots at dismantlers to find a good one, they keep saying they had one, taking them off, and finding them messed up upon disassembly. The whole thing is over-engineered and awkward, the driver side, which is just a normal splined wiper is so much better. It can be removed and reassembled successfully, but has to be done carefully, and that obviously doesn't happen a fair amount of the time. |
Thanks for the heads -up on the right wiper assembly.
I'll be getting my windshield replaced in the next year or 2. |
