Is it just me or does anyone else think that the Cayenne is hideous? Just MHO but I think it degrades Porsches image.

I think it's an okay looking SUV, from what I've seen so far. Nothing really stands out to me just yet. I think I like the rear end, but I'll have to see the pics again.

Something tells me it's going to be the trendy SUV to own - just like the Excursion when it came out (most biggest), then the Escalade (most expensiveist), then the X5 (most sportish), and now, hopefully, the mostest fastest.

I'm a little disappointed. Still can't make up my mind until I see one in person.

Looking at the first pic, the guy in a suit sitting behind the wheel rubs me the wrong way. Just isn't the image I have of a pcar enthusiast. Looks to me like it'll be another Boxter, a car for non-enthusiasts and soccer moms.

My two cents...

For the price of a Cayenne, I have a 2000 Xterra, a 78 SC, a nice 260Hp 21 ft powerboat, and that still leaves me with about $15K of pocket money.
Go figure...I guess a Cayenne is not for me !

I still can't get a good feel for its size. Has anybody seen any specs on it? It looks small, but I've heard that it's about the same size as my Acura MDX.

The VW is much better looking.

Let's face it, as SUV's go, it's not bad looking....probably a notch or two below the X5 and a notch or two above the Suburban. What kills it for me is the VW clone. If I laid down that kind of scratch for a super truck, I'd be a little disheartened to pull up next to the VW version at a traffic light which looks just like it and shares 90% of the parts. For that kind of dough, it ought to be unique.

Just my 2 cents.

A morning show on Channel 11 here in So Cal aired a segment on the turbo Pepper Mobile yesterday. It showed it driving down a windy mountain road. I have to admit that the Pepper Mobile was really, really moving. If I had so much money it didn't matter, I would probably pick one up to park next to my concouse but daily driver stable of the RSR, and GT cars.

I agree the VW looks better. I think it was a mistake for Porsche to try to apply the same design language it uses on its sports car to an SUV. I think the front end looks as though it doesn't know whether to be a mini van, a station wagon or a sports car. They are good enough designers they should have been able to create a design language applicable to an SUV and not try to force the design into something it wasn't meant for.

I dunno, I think it's an okay vehicle. It's great for the majority of Porsches current customers who are looking to further enjoy the marque as well as have the "status symbol" part of it. I'd really like to drive one and see how Porsche has applied all of their technology and engineering into an SUV. And to all the haters, yeah i'd buy one if i had the money and needed something like it (maybe if i had a boat, like a cigarette off-shore....someday ). But lets get one thing straight, it is damn ugly compared to some of its competition.

I'm not good at French but....

Just roll down through the posts on that board and count the number of smilies throwing up and rolling their eyes. I thought this was a hard bunch.

I think I like the looks of the VW model better too. Something about the two turbo scoops that looks odd to me.

Then again, I really don't like the looks of any of the SUVs. I really still like the look of my '88 Pathfinder. I think it looks like what a truck should be - like a giant Tonka. It's square in all the right places, and the 2-door look makes it look like it's "out to do some business" instead of hauling kids. Well, actually, it's really a Nissan pickup with a metal interior frame welded to it. Let's hope it lasts until 200K!

I like the VW version a hell of a lot better! I would definitely buy the V10 Diesel with 550lbs-ft of torque...nice for towing!
But as far as the Porsche it's gonna be a sad day when the Cayenne comes out.
Porsche is officially dead for me!

Puhhleeze. Porsche has had some odd moments in the past (924, prototype Porsche minivan, etc.), but I really think that you guys are over exaggerating here. It's probably a good business move, and years down the road when Porsche is still independent and winning Paris-Drakar, and LeMans, I'll have the chance to say "I told you so..."

Then again, I could be wrong, but only time will tell...

Not to argue the other side (I think the Cayenne is the worst automotive decision since...well the Aztek i guess), but let's not forget that the Porsche faithful were up-in-arms about the 928 when it first came out. And the 924. And the 914. And there are still 356 owners that refuse to accept the 911...
