Do I wave at Cayennes

Give me a friggin break.

no, and you're not supposed to wave at Mexicans, Irish immigrants, African Americans in Ferraris, or anyone wearing a fez.

you know, i spend hours, days, weeks, months, and years defending what a nice bunch of people Porsche owners are. people say "oh, you're in the Porsche club, i heard they're all a bunch of uptight snobs." i joined PCA so that we could hang out with others that had similar interests in these fine German automobiles. if PCA didn't exist, i'd join SCCA, or my local hot rod club. i'll wave to every 1970 Camaro SS, every 914 1.8 litre, every Karmann Ghia, every 996, and every hiboy Deuce Coupe i see passing by in the other direction. rumour has it that Morgan owners and drivers even like to wave back when you throw the salute up.

then after hours of chatting with others about magnificent cars, remarkable feats of engineering, and what the brave new future holds; my enthusiasm gets crushed when i see the narrow-minded views of people who i know are out there telling everyone they're a die-hard "Porsche enthusiast".

it's funny because in these "entusiasts" who put others down i find the same sad, sad traits: low self-esteem, envy, and egocentricity. it's sad really because when you take the time to talk to that guy with the beat up old truck, you find out he has a 900Hp turbocharged Corvette out back. the woman in the Lexus SUV drives a turbocharged Cosworth rally car once every 2 weeks. the young kid with the big-winged Honda is just proud of his brother's professional sportscar racing team. the woman with the dressed-up Ford F150 uses it to tow her husband's twin-engined hillclimb special.

but then when it all comes full circle, i'm sure that they wouldn't have anything nice to say to the Porsche owner that dismissed them because of the vehicle they were in at the moment.

here i go, back defending how friendly, fun, and helpful Porsche owners are. when i read stuff like "Do i wave at Cayennes? Give me a friggin break"... i wonder why I even bother?

I think you missed my point! I wave to people I know, I wave back at people who wave to me. I think it is a stupid question to begin with. I enjoy cars in general not so much the people who drive them as they are all walks of life as you yourself stated. This thread is mearly ment as a satiar to another thread. I personally dont think its necessary to wave at another driver to aprreciate the make of car. In fact I would bet a lot of people would be wondering what the hell I am waving at.

But if you would prefer to take an offensive stance on the subject there's not much I can do to change that.

"i wonder why I even bother? "

Because, you are the self-proclaimed sarcasm king!

Sorry Wayne! Once again I dont meet your standards. Perhaps I could be as perfect as you if I could only make my mistakes disappear. Only once in a while people might notice and catch a glimpse of the real person behind those curtains.;)

Brian? You could be right. After all, Wayne no longer makes many posts on the 911 forum... He has no need to....Methinks Wayne promotes just a bit of controversy here in order to keep this Cayenne board alive. Hell, I'd do the same, if I were Wayne. After all, how many people who buy a status machine to haul golf clubs are going to post on a "car guy" site????

We Have Similar Problems on the BMW motorcycle forum

Why I Dont wave :D

I love motorcycles, and I love riding. Like many of you, what first drew me to bikes was not just the experience of riding, but the feeling that I'd become part of a special community?a brotherhood, really. Nothing calms me more than a long ride down the interstate, waving to the members of my beloved clan. Except when I pass Harley guys. I hate Harley guys. Hate, hate, hate. When they pass me on the highway, you know what I do? I don't wave. With their little tassle handlebars and the studded luggage and the half-helmets?God, they drive me crazy.

You know who else I hate? BMW guys. Oh, I do hate those guys. I don't wave at them, either. They think they're so great, sitting all upright, with their 180-degree German engines. God, I hate them. They're almost as bad as those old bastards on their touring motorcycles. You know what I call those bikes? "Two-wheeled couches!" Get it? Because they're so big. They drive around like they've got all day. Appreciate the scenery somewhere else, Grampa, and while you're at it, I'm not waving to you.

Ducati guys?I don't wave at them either. Why don't they spend a little more money on their bikes? "You can have it in any color you want, as long as it's red." Aren't you cool! Like they even know what a desmo-whatever engine is, anyway. Try finding the battery, you Italian-wannabe racers! I never, ever wave at those guys.

Suzuki guys aren't much better, which is why I never wave at them, either. They always have those stupid helmets sitting on top of their stupid heads, and God forbid they should wear any safety gear. They make me so mad. Sometimes they'll speed by and look over at me and you know what I do? I don't wave. I just keep on going. Please, don't get me started on Kawasaki guys. Ninjas? What are you, twelve years old? Team Green my ass. I never wave at Kawasaki guys.

I ride a Honda, and I'll only wave at Honda guys, but even then, I'll never wave at a guy in full leathers. Never, never, never. Yeah, like you're going to get your knee down on the New York Thruway. Nice crotch, by the way. Guys in full leathers will never get a wave from me, and by the way, neither will the guys in two-piece leathers. And I'll tell you who else I'm not waving at?those guys with the helmets with the loud paintjobs. Four pounds of paint on a two pound helmet?like I'm going to wave back to that! I'll also never wave at someone with a mirrored visor. Or helmet stickers. Or racing gloves. Or hiking boots.

To me, motorcycling is a like a family, a close-knit brotherhood of people who ride Hondas, wear jeans and a leather jacket (not Vanson) with regular gloves and a solid-color helmet with a clear visor, no stickers, no racing gloves and regular boots (not Timberlands). And isn't that what really makes riding so special?
