Should I still buy a diesel with gas prices dropping?

With gas under $2.00/gallon in Texas, should I even bother with a diesel cayenne? Are these still selling in the US?

Garage
Reasons for:
28mpg instead of 22mpg
monster torque for towing
longer expected engine life

Reasons against:
higher initial cost
slightly higher per gal fuel cost (premium is pretty close to diesel and that is what the Cayenne prefers.)
potential tightening future emissions regs

If I planned to do a lot of towing I would still choose diesel. Otherwise probably not.

And lots of oil changes. Would not bother me as I probably change mine too often anyway.
