noise from fuel filler

My 1997 Boxster was made in March of 1997. There is a sound like air escaping from a balloon. There are no electrical connections or valves in the carbon canister or the area in the right front wheel well. I've replaced the fuel cap but no change. When this happens, there is a very slight fuel smell in the garage. Any ideas as to what is wrong? Thanks, Dave

Hi.
This noise you are hearing may be the result of harmonic oscillations from airflow over the filler well cavity.

Thanks Mark, the noise only occurs after pulling into the garage and turning the engine off. Taking the cap off helps sometimes as does pushing the flap open. It does not happen all the time. Dave
