Pano Cayenne Article

Okay, insert standard disclaimer here about how Pano is a sellout and basically under Porsche NA's thumb to produce nice articles about how great everything Porsche makes is. Suffice it to say that they're interested in swelling their membership numbers, so I understand why they're always fawning over every golden turd Porsche emits.

Ahem.

Anyway, the article in the latest issue of Pano (February? March?) on the Cayenne delivers more pics of the behemoth....and I'm convinced. What a great SUV. I mean, if you have to have an SUV, that is. And I'm happy that I'll still be able to outrun one in my '86 911 Targa.

What bothers me is that with a seemingly great engine, lots of great technology to take the vehicle on the track or off the road, why is it so butt-ugly? Is that the best they could do? Cripes, the thing makes the Boxster look normal and stylish. Maybe I'm getting used to the Boxster, but jeez...that is one ugly SUV. BMW has 'em beat in this area, and so does Mercedes, Lexus...hell a Toyota looks nicer than this thing.

It reminds me of those old AMC Eagle wagons. You know, small body, big-ass tires. Bleh.

Other than the body styling, though...pretty cool vehicle. I'd drive one. I especially liked the picture of the Cayenne towing the vintage Carerra behind it! That's the way to go to a DE.

I have to agree about Pano...I was about to toss out the issue, given that the article was so full of praise that it made one wonder how sincere the writer was. A bit of criticism would have been more realistic. I was surprised how different the two iterations look side by side, almost like two different manufacturers.

The looks grow on you. However, since I will be behind the wheel I can't see it anyway :D

I was looking at the article in Automobile Magazine and the driver looked "packed" into the driver seat. I am going to definitely have to do a thorough walk-through at the auto show. I am 6'0" and 245 lbs. Size does matter.

Has anyone else noticed that shortly after they started their monthly Cayenne tribute they cut out the letters section? Too much bad press from their own readers perhaps...?

The comment about being inside and not having to look at the outside is interesting <G>. Most Porsche owners just HAVE to look back after parking their pride and joy. If not, what's the point?

Just havin' fun...

I've belonged to PCA since 1967...this is the first new car article they've published that I didn't bother to read...looked at the photos tho, and the one of a Cayenne pulling what looked like a '73RS on a trailer made me want to puke...
