Porsche's Truck & Fox Sports...

Rich Ford, Chief Operating Officer of Porsche North America, just presented Howie Long of Fox NFL Sports with the keys to a Porsche Cayenne on national TV, just before the Eagles/Buccaneers game.
A few brief words were followed by Howie thanking Rich for "a great, great truck."

Think Porsche has to tweek its marketing efforts a bit?

Hey guys,
In this market SUVs are classified as trucks.
If the professor had decided to make one in his day, you can bet it would have been the best bad-*ssed truck available. (As I recall, he did pretty well on another project which became known as the Tiger)
So enough already. Porsche design studios have been cranking out all kinds of hardware, including tractors.
They don't live in the past. Neither should we.

That may be, but the early Porsche tractors were never marketed as FUVs (Farm Utility Vehicles), they were simply sold for were they were: tractors.

I think the point that we were attempting to make was marketing strategies, not the "truck" itself. If the good Doctor was still around I'll bet he would market it differently... Like the proving grounds of Dakar, not showing it driving through town with people breaking their necks to see it. It is nothing more than status in my HO, or at least that is how it is being marketed thus far. Just like the new 911 commercials.

If Rich Ford had known that Howie Long was going to refer to the Cayenne as a "truck", he would have pulled him aside and politely told him that that was "verboten".

No doubt that Porsche marketing is scrambling to prevent this from happening again.

I know alot of people who drive SUVs; not one of them refers to it as a truck.

Porsche probably could have eliminated all the crap they're getting if they sold the Cayenne under a different label than Porsche. Toyota has Lexus, Honduh has Accura, Nissan, Infinity. They would sell just as many, and would not have ticked off so many people for jettisoning their heritage.

Was that thought worth two cents, or what?

I wouldn't touch the Cayanne w/ a 10' pole, but I am very interested in the 10cyl. tdi turbo Touareg. Looks like a nice tow vehicle. Sounds like a bad cold.

How bout that half time show. Maybe they should have run it by their "American Idol" staff before they aired that piece of crap.

Yeah, I know a lot of folks that refer to their suv's as "the truck."

It's a chance at reality that most SUV folks choose to ignore.

Good luck,
David Duffield

Everyone I know, and I know quite a few, refers to their SUV (mine included) as a truck. I view my truck the same way I view my Glock. . .and you know what that old statement is. And, to all those who equate my driving a SUV with supporting terrorists, when you have 21 years (or greater) in service to your country in the military, you can come talk to me. If you don't, then you're invited to take a long walk off a short pier.

DITTO - If and when the Land Cruiser (sometimes known as my "Truck") gives up the ghost
