Have bought a 2004 cayenne turbo it came with 18" winter wheels. It had a spare set of summer wheels 22" I put them on now keep getting a suspension issue the height wont adjust and the little suspension indicator shows on gauges.
is it because of the 22" wheels

Did you put the car in jacking mode when you lifted it to change wheels? As by not doing so you can damage the airbags and this may cause fault.

no I didn't just found that out about it... but I did jack it up via the control arms so I would have thought it would be ok. maybe not.

The air suspension lock is there simply to keep the car from trying to level while jacking. That's it. The suspension won't break by taking a load off (jacking) w/o the lock. side note.. Holding the level lever forward (w/ ignition on) for 5 seconds or so generates a beep and a message that the auto level is disabled. It will resume working as soon as you drive a short distance.

I've heard that the autolevel can completely empty an airbag to try and level and there is possibly a chance of damaging the airbag if filled from empty.

Doubtful. First, the level sensors (on each wheel) would have to be giving some crazy false signals to empty one corner. Second, Notice how slowly the system inflates.
