... than this!!

What is this thing? Is there a 911 inside it (so this isn't OT)?

While I wouldn't swap it with the styling of my SC, to my eye, it's not that bad.

masraum 02-20-2003 05:31 PM

I like it. It was recently in one of the mags, 911 and Porsche World I think. The tires have the Crest cut into them. I think this was for someone's birthday and was also to commemorate the Carrera Panamerica. The profile is cool.

Panamericana concept car--1989---presented to Ferdinand Porsche on his 80th birthday. some design elements (toned down) made their way to the 993 design, max ps, I would take it over the Cayenne:)

i had just taken a look at this picture on Rennlist. thought I would import it here for your viewing pleasure /pain! maxhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/993andfugly1.jpg

Wow, forgot how ugly the Pepper truck was

I guess I haven't seen a picture of the Cayenne in a while. Forget what I said, above. The pepper delivery truck is truly hideous.

The Panamericana design study is growing on me the more I look at it. I can see the 993 cues in headlights, fenders, mirrors, etc.

I found that Panamericana picture in a calendar making program and just had to share it here... didn't realize it was a well-known factory creation. Learn something new every day on this board!!

It looks like a dune buggy.

ZAMIRZ 02-20-2003 06:16 PM

That's the Carrera Panamerica, how dare you insult one of Ferry Porsche's birthday presents.

john walker's workshop 02-20-2003 06:52 PM

i like it. it also has a rollback roof. mondo-bittchin!

Speaking of Carrera Panamerica, a trivia thing...anybody know who won the first one, what car he drove, and where he was from? ;)

ChrisBennet 02-20-2003 07:58 PM

Like Steve mentioned, IMO the coolest thing about the Carrera Panamerica car was the tires with the Porsche crest in the tread.

FYI...

Porsche "SOLD-OUT" it's 20,000 unit production as of 01/01/2003.

Do the arithmetic...!SmileWavy

Hmmm, I wonder how many Vegas chevvy sold the first year of production? Gotta admit though, they weren't priced around $60K...

RSBob 02-20-2003 10:04 PM

Both would make excellent dune buggies

masraum 02-20-2003 10:21 PM

Unfortunately most of the magazine shots which were good ones ended up on the spine of the magazine, but here are a couple of shots including one of the tire.

And don't forget this was made in '89 and had the M64/01 3.6, all wheel drive, weighed 1474kg dry, and was never for sale according to the article.

Actually, the roof ZIPS on and off.

By the way. If I had the excess cash, and if I was buying a new SUV, I'd most certainly go for the Cayenne Turbo. One of the reviews I read mentioned something about the Porsche engineers working the traction control on the Turbo, and doing 0-100KMH in the low 4 second range. It involved very precise manipulation of the traction control. Supposedly, if you missed in this process, you'd most likely fry part of the drive train.

Another review elaborated on the amount of new technology sold in the turbo Cayenne and how its purchase price was quite a bit less than the turbo 996. Got to keep exclusivity in the 911 series!

Nevermind the 3.6 transplants. From what I saw with the recent snowstorm there will be plenty of rolled over Cayennes in my neck of the woods. Should make for an interesting swap.
