Do you think we could order another set of headers using your pattern? Do you think they keep the pattern on file? Hal |
i suggested to them that they keep a pattern or whatever. might call stainless headers and ask them. if you are using the renegade hybrids engine hoop it is necessary to relocate the remote water pump mount. not a biggie. do a search for Stainless Headers...company name.
Probably a bit late now, but I tried calling them for a copy of your headers a couple months ago, and it was a no go. They didn't keep the jig.

These conversions are always interesting and fun to watch as they evolve. Don't forget that you will need to do something about your tachometer so it will read correctly with the LS7. The two extra cylinders will make it read 1.33x faster rpms than actual. Check out my post about the little adapter product I did for my own conversion and that I have been providing to other enthusiasts.

thanks bob. i do not use the vdo gauges but rather livorsi gauges that are supplied input from the mast motorsports ecu via a can system. dont know how it works but it makes for a neat system...especially the gps speedometer. thanks for the suggestion.
well i think that this project is finished. as you can imagine the combination of lighter rear engine with much greater hp and tq results in an overall better handling and driving car. i did not weigh the engines but i would estimate that the rear of the car is easily 100-150 pounds plus lighter. final comments ....you do not need 700 chp in a street car! it is way to easy to overpower the rear traction and cold tires on cold pavement can be a recipe for a serious mishap...so all you LS conversion guys...pick you spots and times carefully and stay safe! maxwedge528 http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1334011921.jpg

Larry,
Not sure how I missed this whole build thread, but WOW man, the car looks great. Subscribed..... Your old engine is still waiting for me to get the car back together. I am getting closer every week. I am finally emptying out the bins and zip-lock bags and parts are starting to be assembled!! Hope all is well Brendon |
hey brendon, thanks for the compliment. ive been out of town this week so late responding. i have been following your work on your project and it seems that you are doing a really good job. hope all is well.
well i have about 4000 miles on the conversion and all seems well. i did have to have the alternator rebuilt...40 bucks and maybe thirty minutes to remove and replace. i have not measured gas mileage but it seems reasonable...maybe 20 miles to the gallon. cooling system is working well but still have hot weather coming. oil cooler location seems okay and oil temps at interstate speeds are 190-200 degrees. it will be interesting to see how well temps react to the coming really hot weather. i dont expect anything out of the norm but you never know until you know! i still dont like the look of the polished fm5 wheels but just have not worked up the "just do it" attitude to change to all black!

700hp
I have a twin turbo f.i. small block it will have close to the same h.p. as yours. I have a 78 930 tranny in it. Is it way overpowered? I loved your build, beautiful car. enjoy!!!!!!!!!!
took my other v8 conversion out for a little drive down the interstate today. it has an all aluminum dart 434 cubic inch sbc roller motor that makes almost 600 chp. it is a 71 rs conversion with all the stuff that most guys modify or install. it also is fairly light at 2300 pounds. i had forgotten how light and tight that it feels even though the 930 has more power and weighs about the same. acceleration in fourth gear happens very quickly...third gear synchros are shot!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1339964029.jpg
what tranny are you running in the narrow body?
it has a short bell 930 transaxle with kennedy stage 2 clutch and pressure plate.
what trailing arms do you have? 930s? I'm wondering if the power tears up the bearings on the aluminum SC trailing arms.
i run late carrera trailing arms i believe with the carrrera axle and big bearing constant velocity joints. rear wheels are lindsey modified 9.5 by 17 with 275-40-17 kumhos. as you can imagine the 434 cubic inch motor develops over 600 ft/ibs torque.

Man, incredible cars, you have my highest respect!
David |

Oh man, that sounds sweet!
Sounds good. you have to find someone with a GoPro and suction cup mounts
Any of you thinking about an LS conversion, I've got a parts deal. I've got a 5-speed 965 G50/52 and LSD with new Kennedy LS to G50/52 conversion plate, new Sachs clutch kit and new Kennedy LS to G50/52 conversion flywheel for sale. The Turbo transmission is supposed good for up to 700HP. I'm asking $8,000 for the package.
FS: 965 Turbo 5 speed:G50/52 w/ LSD, LS conversion plate, flywheel, SACHS clutch kit |
So, any updates about the conversion?
Ready to sell? I'm interested, as long as it has AC. |
the conversion is done and has been for quite a while. the car is not for sale..
always had a thing for big healeys. did my first v8 conversion while stationed at ft sill back in 1968. they are way to valuable to convert nowadays. but...i found this hotrod 383 sbc conversion at a decent price and will add it to the mix. seems to be a very nice well built conversion. pick it up tomorrow! ill be traveling i40 to knoxville and then i75 on and through cincinnati. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1375696844.jpg
That's what i like about you Larry, finish one and build another!
Austin Healey 3000!!! Wait, Austin Healey 6000?
If there is any car I want back that is it. I imagine you will be going back to wire wheels.... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1375721962.jpg |
no i will keep the wheels i think. they have splined centers and use three eared knockoffs and a little wider than the standard healey wires.
took a little blast down the interstate this morning. cold air does to naturally aspirated what it does for turbocharged. car started right up and idled down per the computer. lots of power on cold mornings....conversion still performs as expected!!!
That is awesome! Way too much snow up here for any rides! Can't wait for warm weather. Larry u need to add a few more photos!
good grievoes how time passes. my last comment was 10 months ago. since then i have acquired another austin healey...a 1958 bn6 with about 130 horsepower in line six. i drove it this morning for a while and then decided i would break out the 930...nice and cool and little interstate traffic! after driving the healey the porsche seemed like a rocket...acceleration in fourth gear running the speed limit is quick and easy! now where is my 74 bronco to run to the grocery store!!!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1414691984.jpg

congrats on all of the above and the paint!!! and car look great!!!

Vss need
My understanding, you need the VSS to eliminate stalling issues. My conversion used the VSS sprocket "notches" times wheel circumference diameter in the mile. This number or calculations needs to be flashed into the ECM so it knows when the vehicle is in motion. Failure to program the ECM and have it "receive" pulse numbers will cause stalling issues.
i finally got around to removing the 2.4 rear grill badge and replaced with a more correct 7.0! i feel much better as my car is not intended to be a sleeper!!!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1415641364.jpg
SOLD to a gentleman in TEXAS! still got my 71 rs lookalike with 550 chp! going to miss the 930! went to a good home....hope he runs the wheels off of it!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1436127498.jpghttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1436127578.jpg
What? No way! My favorite 930!
Wow!
Did i miss the for sale thread somewhere? |
spoon, just bought a santa clara county sheriffs department under cover 91 mustang ssp car...restored and only 50100 miles...more my speed and it has ac and a radio!!! 75 and slowing down!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1436128601.jpg
That's a clean looking car. Where'd you find that? I look for government auctions around here sometimes, but nothing that exciting comes up.
found a link to it on the mustang ssp forum....first low mileage, bare metal repaint, new old stock interior ssp car i had found...the forum member posted a link to ebay. the seller phone number was listed so i bought it then and did not wait for the auction to end! expect delivery next friday!!
