1.8t powered 924s
I have a pair of 87 924s
One on The road and the other with issues I've picked up a low miles Jetta 1.8t for cheap with body issues to part but would like to put the engine in the car with issues for a track day toy. Have seen a few pictures of cars that have been done but not alote of details on issues that I know will come up is there a build thread on here that I just didn't find? |
I haven't see one in here, there's others on the interwebs.

Seen a couple but not alote of details or stopped posting half way finding as much as I can so I'm ready and don't have to look or wait for parts

Honestly, if you don't have the time or patience, then don't even start on a project like this.
Every single guy out there who's done an engine swap has had to deal with some issue that doesn't have a mapped out solution on the interwebs. Fitting a motronic 1.8T can will pose a lot of fabrication challenges to getting a near 40 year old 924 back on the road (error codes/gauge display?, stock 924s ran hot--->cooling solutions?, clearance issues of the hood and engine bay, exhaust mating?, etc.). I'd sell the 924s and the Jetta then just look out for a 924/944 that someone has already built up. |
Not a new guy with fabrication, finishing up a long project, 89gti ABF turbo build with standalone. I would say same thing to someone I didn't know.

A few have been finished and are driving.
The hard part seems to be mating engine to trans. A few have gotten a FWD 1.8 transaxle and cut it up/machined a BH out of it and then made an adapter plate to bolt between the "BH" and the 944 torque tube. There is a Quicktime brand steel bellhousing available for the 1.8 for about $700 but then you still need to make an adapter to the 944 tube. Engine fits very easily as it is super compact - mounts are the "easy part". From what I've seen it's either custom intake manifold or modified B5 Passat intake manifold with the throttle body moved a bit to clear 944 brake master cylinder. |
New email and forgot login password so set up new account, update made custom adapter, engine is mounted to torque tube and working on mounts tonight😈

Any updates? Really interested. Clutch just gave out and have a few other things that need replacing. Motor has close to 200K miles and not as effective as it once was. Considering this option.

Been busy with new job finished up one mount and other is ready to be welded but haven't been able to get gas for welder
Also researching the BMW brake hydroboost so I don't have to find someone to tig the intake, I may be able to use a jetta intake http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1532607410.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1532608308.jpg |
Thinking it would be close to fitting with hydro boosterhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1532641890.jpg

You've seen this? It looks like they went non-power brakes to get everything to fit.
