1986 944 Challenge Canada price check
Good evening Pelicans,
I have the option to purchase a 1986 Porsche 944. It has 130K Kms (80K miles) history unknown, apparently was shipped to Ontario for the Rothmans Canada Cup. I’ll start with the state of the car. - poorly repaired front left collision - Non original hood - headlight actuation issues - respray here and there, many scrapes and scratches paint 5/10 - PO installed stereo and speakers, radio since removed - rad leak - cracked dash - clutch is tall, worn? - starts up well, idels well - seems to shift well - seats are good - tire, jack, compressor present Now for the interesting part. As stated above, looks like the car is one of 40 cars imported to Canada. Of these 40, this car is one of nine that have not been converted for racing, see COA. It also has LSD and the sport suspension package. And now, the million dollar question. Is the value of the car enhanced by option code 750? (944 Challenge Canada). What would you value this car at factoring the information above? Thank you Pelicans, Alex ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

So I take it’s there is no particular market for this option build. If that’s the case, what would be a fair valuation for this car?
Thanks, Alex

I'll take a shot. It's not an S. It's beat up. It's got issues. Why are you looking at it?
I wouldn't give the guy $5K USD for it. There are much better 944's out there.

I’d pay $4500 CAD to have another project. As for why I’m looking at it? I live in a small Canadian Rocky Mountain town. I got pretty excited when I saw another p-car in town. Thanks for your input. Alex

Given, the condition, I’d say it isn’t worth much. All 944/951 cars seem to be worth double what they were five years ago. This really doesn’t mean much when we talk about $2k-$10k cars that are now $4K-$20k. So $5k is my max here.
What’s interesting about this car is that it’s a cup car but with no race history. Note the roll up windows and no cassette holder/armrest. Plus LSD and sport suspension. No sunroof right? Consider this the club sport of 944 n/a’s. I just saw a Rothsman Cup 944 at the Porsche parade at Lake of the Ozarks last week. So cool to see one in person. This is a cool project car. The mechanical issues sound pretty light. This car deserves a good exterior restoration. Hope it will be saved but you won’t make any money doing it.
