Offer to purchase

I just received a phone call from an 848 area code number (NJ). The caller says that he is working with PCNA, obtained my contact info from them, and is prepared to make me an offer to purchase my Porsche. I ask if he knows what kind of Porsche I own. He says no, his records only show that it is an air-cooled model. He goes on to explain that the offer is from PCNA, the funds come from PCNA and his company receives a 4% commission for each car purchased. I'm polite, decline to share any details and say it's not for sale.
I am a PCA member and my car's info is listed with the club along with my address and phone number.
Anyone ever heard of this?
Just wondering...

So they want to buy a car but decided it wasn’t even worth the 30 seconds it takes to check out what you are actually selling so it might sound legit. I bet this guy has a Nigerian lottery scam going too, and also sells real estate on Pluto as well. Who gets taken by this amateurish con? Do these guys have an IQ of 20? Cause it would need to be practically unregisterbale on the scale for one to think this is a scam that could be successful.

How can he make you an offer if he doesn't know what kind of car you have?

If this was in any way ligit... which it isn't, one would think that the only offer would be your posted asking price. Bet he didn't know that. Wow - it just keeps getting worse.

Ummmmm, yeahhhh. When does PCNA use funds to buy cars that they do not even know what they are and then some outside company gets a commission using their money to buy? Sounds like scammers have found another way. It seems so over-the-top and ridiculous.

I've never been called but for about six months after I listed my last car I got postcards from several different dealers offering to buy my vintages cars.

Someone must have hacked a database somewhere.
The only people who know your personal and car info are PCA and your insurance agent, right?

So many people publish their cell number in parts FS ads and list their car in their signature. I could spend 15 minutes in the classifieds and have a dozen potential victims to call.

I’ve never understood that either.

PCNA car purchase

I have sold a few nice examples to PCNA for classic mechanic training. They are more than capable of handling the transactions themselves, and transporting them to their facility in Ontario CA.

If they harvested the info from a FS ad, then he would have the make/model/year info.

Interisting thing happened to me yesterday.

Via This forum, I received an eamil stating that seller has the car i was looking for 2 years ago. Have sent me photos, google photo search doesn't reveal anything.

I will do the traditional- post todays news paper with the car. If its real - it will make me nervous untill it is in my gagage as it is overseas.

Bacause sometimes the cars we are looking for a not run of the mill P cars.

Personally I love the thrill of the hunt and the higher the risk- the higher the reward. (rare car) Photos of the car with news paper confirms car photos not stolen from another site.

Do not want to hijack OP thread
