964 Turbo with "replaced timing belt"

Wow good thing they replaced the timing belt!

Such a knowledgeable seller! I see these kind of ads locally (V6, Steptronic, can't spell Porsche, Boxster, etc) and never correct the seller so that potential buyers know that the seller is clueless and has probably owned the car about 5 minutes.

Who made the decision to prohibit replies on "Cars for Sale" posts? Seems arbitrary, and given the expertise here, counterproductive.

trader220 09-02-2018 11:48 AM

IIRC Pelican changed the cars for sale section more then 10 years ago. There were too many negative comments shredding the cars listed or the sellers. That's when they started this Market Place Discussion topic.

It was getting pretty ugly.

Mocker 09-03-2018 12:28 PM

JMO, but if a listing deserves to be ripped apart, and members here rip the seller's listing accordingly, that is a benefit to the members of this forum.

Does Pelican get sponsorship $$ from car dealers? Why would Pelican be more interested in "protecting" car dealers (and random sellers) than the day-to-day members here?

There is no shielding of comments in the "Parts for Sale" forum, or any other forum, as far as I know...

This is where Rennlist is so much better since they allow it. I agree, it’s ridiculous to ban comments. What would BaT be without commentary allowed from anyone other than the seller? The answer...eBay. Where cars don’t sell, it’s used just for advertising.

Seller has a great rep.

You guys weren't here. It made the peanut gallery on bat look gentle. I think part of the decision was a desire not to spend all day babysitting it. It was the majority of the threads. The parts section doesn't even qualify as a comparison.

Fair enough. But I maintain that if a car is represented honestly, the seller has nothing to fear from members' comments. So, again, I'd ask: Who's ox is getting gored here?

I was here in those days and I agree it was a chit show. I don't blame pelican for not wanting to babysit. Hence they started this "markplace discussion"

I don't know a whole lot about this seller other than the run in they had here when they were selling a Weissach Edition SC a few years ago which was not represented correctly and even when they were called out on it they stuck to their lies. Based on feedback they're not the kind of place I want to do business with. But... as I always say, you can buy a car from anyone or any dealer, just make sure you put your own hands on it and get a true independent PPI done. That way there are no surprises.

I'm hoping they did a coolant flush as well!

trader220 09-04-2018 06:47 AM

...typically when they replace the timing belt its usually time for the water pump, so I guess that includes a coolant flush.

littleoldman 09-04-2018 06:48 AM

Trader 220 - I think that the MARKETPLACE is where you/the crew get to "add your comments...

So why not copy paste and correctly edit it. Make your helpful comments in a new color text so we can all SEE the Sellers errors and then you look/appear to be the "Guy you want to Be" instead of a One Liner: Wow good thing they replaced the timing belt!

The One Liner doesnt help anyone.

As I said, you can buy a car from anyone with the proper steps.

My whole point was this... do you want to buy a car from someone who lists all of that and gets it wrong? Where did they get that info from? Surely not from a work order listing work done. Was it made up out of thin air? Did they cut and paste from some other description?

If you like the car, go look at it, have a PPI done and make sure its independent.

littleoldman 09-04-2018 10:41 AM

My point was this...

You can add a lot of snide comments and we can all have fun adding more on top...kind of Mystery Science Theater 3000
