A few questions b4 selling my '87 Carrera

Guys,

I'm planning to put my car up for sale at the Radwood event in Philly this weekend (see bottom of post for car pic). I've got 2 questions I'm hoping someone can help me with:

1. On several old receipts I inherited with the car, I see a reference to a "Delivery Date". All receipts with a date listed in this field (and there are many) indicate 11/22/1987. What is the significance of this date? Carfax lists the "1st owner reported date" as 6/4/1987, and my certificate of authorization from Porsche lists the "production completion date" as 11/24/1986. I'm wondering if the "Delivery Date" is when the first owner received the vehicle vs the Carfax date being when the US dealer received the vehicle.

2. Since purchasing my car back in '07, I've had a German license plate on the front, and that was exactly as the previous owner had purchased it as well. It's definitely a US car given the VIN, but I'm wondering whether the plate may have any significance to the car, or if a previous owner just wanted to add some German flare . From a little research, it looks like:

- It was registered in Furth, Bavaria (Bayern).
- It was originally a rear plate as it bears the circular safety test inspection, not the hexagonal emissions inspection. I'm not quite sure on this point.
- The color of the safety inspection sticker indicates that it expired in December 1991. I believe Germany requires a new inspection every 6 years, which would mean the plate was issued in 1985, which wouldn't make sense for an '87 p-car.
- It looks likes "plates for export" (aka Euro delivery) should have a section in red on the right-hand side indicating an expiration date. And I believe this is in lieu of a emissions/safety inspection sticker.

All that said, I'm guess it's just German flare, but I wanted to run my analysis by this group and see if misinterpreting it.

And here's the beauty that I will be putting up for sale. Thanks!

the answer to your question on del date has no bearing on the value of the car. probably had to do with the start time of the warranty period.
a previous owner got a kick out of a plate beginning; FU.

The delivery date on the receipt is 1/22/87. The COA will state if it is tourist delivery.

Cool Furth plate, though. As a kid, I lived in Furth which is outside Nurnberg. In the 80s, there were a lot of US military stationed in that area. Due to the positive Dollar/Deutschmark exchange, many Americans stationed there were buying German cars and most were ordered US-spec so they could send them back to the US without facing federalization issues associated with Euro spec cars. These US spec cars were optioned as tourist delivery cars. My 944 is one of these cars.

Does this car show as tourist delivery? One thing to note is that back in the 80s, cars in Germany that were registered to US military families had standard American sized license plates tagged "USA" and not state issued. They wouldn't have German/Furth license plates. So, given that, this German plate probably didn't originally belong to this car.

Keep the plate for the memory. It won't impact the value one bit. Put it on your wall as a keepsake.

Thanks for the input, everyone. These questions were not about value. It's more about being able to tell the story of my p-car :-)

Sounds like the plate may be a nice souvenir for me to remember the car by!

Thanks for all of the input and the tip about the COA. No, it doesn't indicate anything about tourist delivery.
