Value of rebuilt early 70s 4 spd/5 spd transaxles
 

I recently came across a 1970 4 spd 911/00 911T 4 speed tranny and a 1971 911/01 5 spd 911E or 911S tranny. Both appeared in good condition but I view all trannys/motors as mystery motors unless you have 1st hand knowledge of their function when removed so I took them to a very trusted (40+ yr) local Porsche/VW transaxle expert. Both boxes were in good shape needing mostly synchros, gaskets, and bearings.

The dilemma is unless you have an early 70s 911 missing a tranny you probably aren't looking for one unless you have the numbers matching tranny to your car you would rather delay the rebuild on to get the car back on the road.

Appreciate any input on the values, the local guy that did the rebuild has done lots of porsche transaxles and includes a 2 yr warranty on his work.

The 4spd is pretty only good for parts. It’s of very little interest to anyone. Less than $1000, which would be ring and pinion and S gear combined value on teardown.

The 5spd is useful. Maybe $2000-2500? Was the 1/r op sleeve done and 1st gear dog teeth? Any pics of their condition while apart?

Looks like the 3/4 operating sleeve was replaced on the 5 spd and 1st gear, the 4 spd was mostly synchros, seals, and bearings.

Those are 944 part numbers. 911.302.411.10 is a 2/3 shift sleeve, for example. Those are all Audi format like 924 and 944. Something ain’t right here...

Matt it looks like to me that the guy did hand write in the 911 part numbers after the other part numbers. He probably just had a 924/944 estimate form or something or other in the computer and used it as a generic form and then wrote in the 911 numbers as shown as to what really was needed.
