Minilite Value

I have bought a set on Minilite wheels. The seller has mistakenly sent me wheels that are not as described. I am not interested in making a public dispute - this is a hobby for me. I would like to hear some input. We are going to resolve this. Please do not post anything derogatory towards the seller, as he has sold many wheels at the same time and has simply made an error.

Wheels have come back from the the tire shop. There are two bends in each of the front wheels. One front wheel has be determined to not be usable. The other front wheel is borderline. The rear were spun and are OK. The inside barrels are gouged. Faces have scuffs and were described as having some scuffs.

What do you think they are worth? Thanks.

The fronts were sold as I requested the following; PAIR 1 AND PAIR 5

Description from Pelican; Pair 1:
10J x 15' – around 10 – 15 laps

8J x 15' – only on the car 3 – 5 laps

New minilites are so inexpensive they're probably not worth anything...

jamesjedi 10-24-2018 10:41 AM

Thanks for the reply. I paid $1163 including shipping. Most likely I will ship back.

Bump

The seller does not think the inside of the wheel matters. I am not in agreement with him on this.

What would you pay?

I never thought the photos of the wheels matched the description of their condition and why I decided to pass on them. I figured my idea of clean no damage and theirs was totally different

The inside of the wheels does not matter on used wheels. It should be expected that they look like that. I purchased some magnesium Speedlines and they looked the same. I got them repainted for $100.00 a wheel locally and they look new.
I guarantee there is a wheel repair shop that can straighten those barrels. I've see lips folded over a quarter way and look new when done.

Fubawu 10-25-2018 06:00 AM

that's close to full retail for those wheels.

dg567 10-25-2018 06:38 AM

That’s what I’m saying. They’re $300 a piece new, not even worth repairing them.

jamesjedi 10-25-2018 06:43 AM

Thanks for the reply 1979-30 and Fubawu.

These were sold as 3-5 lap wheels for the front. The rears were 15 lap wheels.

These are cast aluminum. Cast aluminum will weaken when made straight. I would not ever use the fronts. I am fairly certain it will be a Paypal dispute. These wheels are simply not even remotely what was described. I am not interested in a public dispute. Just facts.

3-5 laps

of the Paris Dakar rally.

The 3-5 lap information in the first post would have changed my answer.
They are well used wheels and someone is fibbing.

Lol right!? 3-5 laps around the country

Would you pay $300 for the set in this condition?

1979-930 10-26-2018 06:09 AM

You don't trust the fronts being fixed, so you only get two rears that need $100.00 each in refinishing to look new. Are two rears worth $500.00? Are these for a track car or nice hot rod? If it's a track car and you will run them as is then $300.00 for the rears is a OK deal.

If you are OK with straightening the fronts and having all four restored then you have a set for $700.00 to $800.00 which is $500.00 ish less than new.

jamesjedi 10-26-2018 06:39 AM

I would not fix the fronts. These are cast aluminum. It is not a sensible repair. Not when you can buy new for $350 shipped to your door.

Trackcar/race car/street car. Allthe same. They are not safe.

I could do $300 for the rears. Just trying to clear this up.

This has been resolved. Thanks to all who provided input, it is truly appreciated.

How much would original ones go for?

RandyMc 01-04-2019 03:50 PM

Take one wheel and threaten to beat hi with it, works for a refund 80 percent of the time, the other 20 percent depends on your taste for violence. End of story.
