How does the VIN #relate to the build date??
Where is the build date to be found on a long hood 911? or is it?

You'd have to know where the sequence of numbers in the VIN was running to gauge the build date. Its not embedded in the vin number.

On later model cars there is a sticker in the drivers door jamb which will have the vin number and month and year the car was built. Later being 1982 or later. You will see two separate sequences. Obviously the month/year is a 4 digit sequence the Vin 17 characters Keep in mind the model year and the build year can be different.

Easiest way is to post the vin. People who know will tell you. Trying to learn how to figure it out yourself is a lot of time and effort for the reasons mentioned above.
