Why hasn’t this car sold?

I’ve been watching the car on eBay for a while.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-Porsche-911-T/153250550788?hash=item23ae71d404:g:NwwAAOSwkjBboFX F&vxp=mtr

Before that I saw it for sale somewhere else as well (can’t remember exactly where) and couldn’t afford it at the time but it ‘floated my boat’. Think then it was $50k.

It seemed that whomever purchased it, didn’t keep it for long - which is a worry, before it was posted on evilbay.

I can’t believe that all buyers on eBay are aware of that, so why hasn’t it sold?

Even if the color doesn’t do anything for you (I like it but maybe a little too much bling of chrome around the seams) why hasn’t it sold like hot cakes? It’s literally been on there for months.

People are starting to wise up and realize that there are far better options out there than spending $40 to $50K on a rickety 50-year-old car with a tiny engine and a bad repaint. It's no bargain, as most smart people have probably already surmised that it's going to take another $25K to get it where it should be. They have realized that they should spend the bigger money in the first place to get a better example. Cars like this get lost in some sort of purgatory in some markets, and at the end of the day it's still a T with S options (and from what I have seen, a lot of Ts had those S options).

I think it's great that he used the flavor-of-the-day BaT write-up with the words "paired" and "breathes" and all the other glossy BaT terms. No one cares. The engine is probably shot and needs a $20K rebuild. So it's a T project car. No bargain. I feel really bad for all those jokers that bought rusted hulks between 2012 and 2017 for the same money and are banging their heads right now. The joke's over.

I Google searched the photo and found this prior ad/notice of prior sale on BaT.

https://www.classiccarratings.com/auction-results/porsche-911t-sunroof-coupe-1970-it-bring-a-trailer---week-20-2017-2639

Pretty interesting that this current seller "forgot" to include the rest of the story re: front tray replacement! See below. (nor the fact that it used to be a Sportomatic.)

Not to mention that the seller only has 35 transactions on eBay - and all 35 were purchases - that all sound like non-automotive small items. No evidence he/she has sold anything previously.

Wow! Nice detective work.
I would have walked right into that.
Seems like the original sale was on BAT, then sold in the advert I originally saw and now to someone else who has it on eBay with the same photos (or a scam).

The accident damage combined with Sals comments of $$$ to get where it should be...

I feel for whomever bought it. That poor soul could have been me!

Yeah, but then we have the 356's.

Very true, but those people really must be banging their heads when they realize how much lead work a 356 body shell needs to be halfway decent. You can buy a $35K 356 or a $65K 356 and there is a huge, huge gap in what you get. Those cars invented rust and the amount of rust I have seen over the summer on so-called 356 drivers that people have been bringing to shows truly proves that rust never sleeps.

The front pan replacement on this 911 would not scare me as much as the engine or what's under that paint. My guess is that the discovery of very dubious half-a$$ fixes on that car has the current owner very scared and wondering at this very moment as to why he pulled the trigger in the first place.

Given the serious side pillar damage that was poorly repaired, plus the iffy paint, I'm guessing this was one of the previously untouchable cars that received tons of lipstick during the "buy any air-cooled at any price and you can't go wrong" frenzy.

But Munky King, I understand the attraction. I'm a fan of that family of colors on 911's. Even with more bling than that one has - this is the one I wish I hadn't let go of:

Wouldn't the engine number tell whether or not the car was a sportomatic?

6103xxx or 6108xxx are sportomatic engines for 1970, correct. Is the engine type stamped on the cases, because they also separate out the sportos.

Here's the full BaT auction listing from May 2017: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1970-porsche-911t-11/

The engine number is shown and is not one of those mentioned above. The Sport-o-matic theory comes only from a PO saying it had an unusual oil gauge. So who knows?

Interesting to read the running comments during the auction. That seller also didn't mention the accident damage - until half way through the bidding. A lot of talk about the initial omission.

It's been relisted on eBay at $41K ask. Long way from $60K prior purchase.

That sucks. He just wants out.
You have to assume the car is a turd when someone is abandoning ship like that. I kinda feel sorry for the guy.

Perhaps. The other possibility is that it is a scam. All the pictures are from the BaT sale, no new ones. The description on eBay is also a pretty straight cut and paste, but no VIN is listed nor is the CoA shown. Anyone in Portland area tried to go see it?
