It's funny that no one would know of a 150-car stash hiding somewhere. That's a lot of cars - and Adam would know about something like this. How can you keep 150 Porsches secret? Maybe, but I do not see it happening.

Bzzt. There's an ad in our regional PCA magazine. It's Al Lager's collection and Carquip is curating it.

Auction isn't until the weekend after Rennsport. There's still time.

Lol. We'll see after the auction but I doubt there will be any bargain prices.

That is the most ridiculously amateurish auction advertisement I've ever seen, especially considering it's for 150 cars. I'd bet the cars are as big of a mess as the lack of effort put into the ad implies.

I’ve been following it for a few weeks. I get the impression it was Al’s heirs who don’t seem to have a clue. Carquip only recently took over and is not writing that ad.

Matt, are you sure this is the same auction you are referencing? Looking at that info, it seems to be 356 cars and parts, the pics in the CL ad are 911s. Just trying to figure out what is going on.

Could the the CL ad be related to the 'eccentric' guy in WY (Gillette???) who had a bunch of cars but seemed to troll anyone interested?

Links below on the Carquip auction.

Page 17 - http://amrporsche.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/MP-Sep18-web.pdf

Dropbox link - https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6t65kx3m2apdczm/AAAa_kWqqegXJsOSsr8DxxWfa/Inventory%20Lists?dl=0&subfolder_nav_tracking=1

Also, I think the CL ad could be read to be 150 cars and parts in total, not necessarily 150 individual cars. Yeh, the ad is pretty bad.

Definitely not John Small. Just call Carquip if you’re a buyer. It’s legit.

If this is the Lager collection I've talked with them twice and made a very solid offer on a chunk of the collection, it was rejected. They wanted retail pricing. My guess would be anything bought from this collection would be the same. Some really cool stuff, and some rare stuff, so if you're looking for something there you will be very happy. But I wouldn't expect to get any super deals.

What's up with the Lager collection? Is it really 150 cars? That's a huge amount of responsibility and storage.

People who want retail will sooner or later have to part with this crap - the clock is ticking.

Since when do you get retail liquidating an estate? Especially of this size. Sounds like some wishful thinking to me.

They all do. I bet Adam has myriad stories ten-fold on trying to pry sad, lonesome, dead, and otherwise rusting-as-we-speak Porsches from the clutches of estates and people who don't see time the way we - or most people - do.

I bet Adam has a million stories about these Porsche vampires who think they will live forever and if they want to sell, they want every single last penny.

I talked to an 80 year old guy today who has a set of NOS 4.5 FUCHS. He said he has sold a lot of stuff over the years and the money just goes away, so at this point he would rather have the stuff. Couldn't really argue with that.

True, but when you are that old I suspect you 1) Realize that everything goes away, or 2) Don't want to realize that everything goes away. Either way, it all gets sold, given or thrown away in the end.

As with selling off a collection of anything. The prized pieces will go for retail and the rest wont, much of it won't sell unless you package it up. In which case you're not getting retail.
