Let's chat RWB pricing??

I was searching another forum and noticed another RWB car for sale.
It was priced at $200k and it got me searching. Most of these builds seem to be priced in the $145k-$215k. I don't understand it?? I don't want to hate on these builds, to be honest I kind of like the odd one. But let's be honest they aren't top quality builds in regards to mechanicals . It's really a free for all in that regard , some are stronger the others. But if you break down the cost to build one:

911 SC or Carrera etc... $40k as an avg some are 964 or 993's so add to it.

Rwb kit installed $30k-$35k I believe that includes everything from paint to wheels and RWB suspension.

So adding a few other bits like brakes, seats exhaust might add $10k leaves You at $85k for the highest of builds less if you so chose . You can't say well a 993 is alot more initial cost as most of these cars are tired to start with. where's the 200k price coming from? I can't see too many 25yr olds (target market) having the cash to buy??

Even if you throw a strong engine build in (no one does) it still would be $110k all in . I guess my question is is anyone buying??

Youre just paying for the builder. Youre buying his art. His work has gained celebrity status and a matching price.

Rwb

I am surprised that the guy who does this does not have scabs on his knees like Raw Knees. With a kit installed like that and that quick where does the quality control come in if you have two humid days in the process.Rolls Royce use to let their cars sit with Nitrostain for a while to make sure it cured and their was no shrinkage.200K IS A JOKE.Ciao Fred

Bespoke stuff has always been like that. Someone doesnt want to wait in line to get one built so he will pay more for one done.

And I think he has a waiting list, so a car that is already done probably commands a premium.

that's Saudi prince stuff there, & is likely the 20-30 something market that can afford one of those cars. even if I won the lottery a porsche like that would be very low on my list. actually, not on my list what's so ever.

He does. He flies around doing them. Leh Keen has had him do a couple. He appears to be making it into some adjunct to his rally business.

I was just watching the latest of these RWB builds. The first ones were really cool. Now I feel like it's just more of the same. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Nakai san and I think RWB cars are fun, but I can't take any more "sweet videos" that feature most of the following:

1. Picking Nakai up from the airport (insert shot of his bespoke case with his tools)
2. We meet the rich dude commissioning the project.
3. Myriad millenials hanging around looking very swell with cool clothing. They take a lot of pictures of Nakai.
4. Music with a big beat.
5. Nakai Smokes.
6. Nakai drinks a stella or a coke.
7. Nakai cuts the f'king fenders off a really nice Porsche using a really cheap tool.
8. Obligatory interviews with the rich guy.
9. Nakai rips some stuff off the car and tosses it. Then he starts mounting the fenders. Cutting and sanding. sanding and cutting.
10. Several cans of black spray paint meet a quick death.
11. Tire fitting and obligatory "Idlers" spray shot
12. Copious amounts of black RTV being squeezed and spread.
13. Nakai applies the coveted RWB window sticker.
14. Nakai driving the car.

Matt is right. RWB builds are the Cosplay or anime of Porsche 911s. You either sorta accept it - or think it's cheeseball like myself.

When I first saw one I thought it was unique. But as the years go on they have not aged well and look like something out of the Fast and Furious franchise that should have been left on the cutting room floor. They are sophomoric in execution and frankly they look like to be some sort of NASCAR 911.

Whatever. My opinion means nothing. I also like Targas and mid years. So my taste is probably lacking.

....and 75 911s nailed it with the points above. It's hilarious, but that dude is rich and he gets customers bigtime. I like Warhol's soup can, but a RWB is amateur to me.

#7 always makes me queazy... not just because he's SawzAll-ing perfectly good metal, but that we never see any corrosion preventative applied to the sliced areas before the tupperware gets glued on.

They are very aggressive looking cars though and I can respect that, but part of the build really should be mandatory beefing up of the drive-train. Imagine driving around in a massively flared and winged 911 with a stock 180hp 3.0L chugging away out back.... oh wait, I just described my turbo-bodied SC. Never mind....

I never liked them in pictures. Like them even less now that I have seen a few in the flesh...

DP A Quality Build

In 1986 I had a customer with a 1976 Peru Red 930 with 20,000 miles. He sent it to Dp in Germany and flew me over there a few weeks later to check on their work. The quality of their work was very good. They added an Intercooler from Kremer and the dollar boost knob.Interior was completely redone as well.We had lunch with Zimmerman & the Kremer Brothers.Their body kit added a fair amount of increased chassis rigidity. It was a nice experience.I was never told the price though.Car now resides in Wisconsin as the new owner contacted me about the engine build a few years ago.Ciao Fred

You also have to wonder how this cars are going to hold up. I really see
these as a step up for the Honda tuners looking to get into Porsches
