Help with Price on 82 SC Targa

There are likely more pros/cons I'll eventually include, but those are the significant ones.

It looks nicer in the pics than it does in person. A lot of great upgrades, and some issues, as well.

Looking for help on an initial ballpark asking price. I can provide additional details and pics. Thanks!

Mid 20's if you want it to go quick, otherwise 28 - 29. It will sit at 30. Lot of quality stuff. The re build and suspension package are primo.
IMO its a very desirable car.

Agree with ask $28k. Expect a deal around $23-25k

And fix the door cards. You can buy used ones or generic replacements here for a few hundred bucks and a Saturday install.

Thanks for the replies. Can I assume the suggested asking prices factor in the bit I mentioned about vehicle mileage?

Also, the car is up for registration. I'll make sure any fees are paid, but I really don't feel like going through the whole California smog check thing anymore. I guess I could PNO the car, but at the end of the day, if selling as is, I want to ensure I'm not on the hook for anything smog related when the new owner tries to get registered. Any suggestions?

Put it on BAT and sell to out of state buyer. That's the only way to get out of smog.

If the car is running well just test it.

I’m not 100% sure that’s true in the winter ‘lull’ of 911 sales.

Your car seems nicer. But it is a Targa - I think that reduces its market appeal. I’d be tempted to advertise for $29.5k that gives everyone some bargaining room and look to get $26 - $27k for it.
If you wait until spring when Thanks Giving and Christmas aren’t on peoples minds, you will have a bigger audience on a national sales venue like BAT and you could hope to get $32k.
For instance, right now in Minnesota, it’s hunting season so many are out doing that up to and through Thanks Giving.

Price it at $35 - 40k if you want the car to sit for months.
Even in the height of the 13-14 market run up, SC's were hard sells at 35-40k. No real sense to it IMO, but 3.2s command the sub 50k money, SC's are sub 30k cars. Regardless of all the Hagerty 'valuation tools' crap, and some pissing contest auction results. The actual economics say prices will stay down for the foreseeable future. In real terms you can see the Air cooled market is contracting, pushing the speculators out. Now we have a serious recession forecast for the US in Q1 & 2 of 2019 leading to a estimated 2 election cycle recovery.

If you're serious about selling this car mid twenties is the sweet spot right now.

I agree with your market/economic assessment. Funny to see the 912E selling for the price ($27-30k) of a 911 these days.

.
The weather has nothing to do with prices.
Prices ONLY go in one direction on rare air cooled 911.
Up.

I didn't realize OP's SC has unknown mileage.
That will cap the value at $35k

$50k for an SC with 100k miles

And after Thanksgiving, they buy air-cooled Porsches? To put a blade on and use them as snowplows?

Amanda,
Ignore Sugarwood. He seems to think trolling it funny.

How the heck can weather have any effect on prices?
Those are words of a fool.

Are you really this daft? Supply and demand. People don't shop for vintage cars in the winter, just like they don't shop for homes. It's a good time to buy as anyone who must sell might make a deal. It's a crap time to be seller unless you are in CA,AZ,TX of FL.

Sarcasm is his latest troll tactic, Matt.
He said he thinks he's Ringo. I think he's more like Yoko.

Winter makes prices go down?
LOL, that's the dumbest thing I've ever read.

BAT is a global marketplace.
Where the seller lives doesn't matter.
Anyone buying a Targa is more likely to be from a warm climate.

Prices probably go up in the winter, since winter is later than summer,
and supply and demand does not apply to air cooled perfection,
and there is limited production so the price only goes up.
Tomorrow the price will be even higher. Buy now, or forever be left out!

No, I'm here. Hopefully I can contribute to helping settle any diff of market opinion soon. Changing the oil today and cleaning up the car a bit. Hope to get smogged soon and get her on the market.
