The most bullish 930 dealer in the world?
I guess by now I shouldn’t be all that shocked when I see a 930 sell at auction and then end up being offered for sale by a dealer as a flip shortly thereafter, as it seems to happen more times than I can count. And even some of them at prices that clearly looked like full retail (and then some) at their original hammer price.
But this one I NEVER would’ve pegged as being dealer bought with the intentions of flipping it, mainly due to the high price it sold for (about double the auction estimate). I figured two wealthy collectors battled it out for this 930 to set this kind of a high price (record I assume). I guess I was wrong, though, as it appears that a dealer was the winning bidder. 456k including commission doesn’t seem like wholesale to me...but what do I know. Bonhams Auction - 456k Sale Price. https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/24811/lot/82/ Carriage House Motor Cars - Where if you have to ask how much, you probably can’t afford it. https://www.carriagehousemotorcars.com/1988-porsche-911-turbo-carrera-slantnose-c-335.htm I can’t imagine what they’re asking for this 930, but I think they take the title for the most bullish 930 dealer in the world. I guess they go by the motto of follow the trend, where new highs beget higher highs. We’ll see how that works out for them in the collector car market. I’m sure they’ve got ultra deep pockets to let it curate at their dealership for a while, as I assume that’ll be needed with this one. |

For every seat there’s an arse...they’re going to need an arse with deep pockets who is looking for a museum piece. There is nothing special about it other then like new condition. The entire value is in the super low mileage, so it can’t really be driven...for display purposes only.

The dealer may have it on consignment from a client and not own it...

Sometimes a car is just advertised for clicks and to get the dealer’s brand noticed.

A good test drive might depreciate it by five figures.

Consider this...You run it and buy it back through a shill, paying the 10% premium of say 45 G's plus transport and sale expenses of 5G's...Since you just established a value 3 times higher than realistic retail...Well, you do the math...

What would the point of that be? Other than pissing away a lot of money. If that’s what you’re alleging, then the 2nd highest bidder would have to be involved in that scheme as well in order to push the price up that high, otherwise they’d just let it go if the next highest bidder were truly arms length.

All auctions are 10% on each end...so if a seller is the buyer that’s 20%.

Mecum which use to be and maybe now still is starting @ 5% seller and 8% buyer. Also I believe for the seller in some auctions there are reduced fees for no reserve, if you have the nerve. Also in some cases the seller fee may be re negotiated when the reserve is close to being met.

Here’s another very bullish 930 dealer...
Paid 246.5k at auction... https://rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/po18/the-porsche-70th-anniversary-auction/lots/r0043-1985-porsche-911-turbo-flat-nose-coupe/722647 Now wants 374.5k for it... https://www.classicdriver.com/en/car/porsche/911-turbo/1985/583661 If it were only that easy to make a 50% return on your money in just a few short weeks. And as if the entire Porsche community doesn’t know what they paid for it too, since it was at Porsche’s 70th anniversary auction. These business models seem flawed, but what do I know, I’m not a dealer. Maybe they’re just storage facilities disguised as dealerships, that would make more sense. |
