Chasing classic cars 1973 911s targa $ 180,000 dollars???
Saw a CCC episode the other day where Wayne took a 1973 911s targa to auction the car was sold for 180 grand?? Anyone else see this? Is that price excessive? It had carburetors not MFI.

I remember the one Wayne ripped of a 90 year old lady on her 911E from new.
low balled her for a tiny scratch on the door and then drove it away to a auction and tripled his money .. Never watched him again after that one... |

Lots of stories out there. The irish green one owner 912 was another example of Waynes dirty low balling. Reality is hes a used car salesman and should be viewed no differently than someone with a chain link fence round a dirt lot full of 4 owner GM clunkers.

I met a Ferrari dealer from Charlotte one summer while flying out west just pre Monterey Week ,
I asked him about Wayne enamored with his ways as I was , he simply said if he sees Wayne first Wayne won't see him ! ha Ha. Take that Carini !...

Its a business for him. He buys low and sells higher. You don't get to see exactly what all of these cars need in order to be brought to auction. All you get to see are some nice shots of him "finding" the car and talking to the owners. You don't see the cars on a lift, you don't see any paperwork, you don't see them really running and driving, you don't see where the rust is.
The hate for dealers here is laughable. Besides, its a TV show, its faux reality.

It's a business for chrissake! He should leave money on the table because the seller is uninformed or out of some sort of pity for the seller? I wouldn't --

I enjoy Chasing Cars! Its pure entertainment. He features rare Marks, takes you to the best shows and auctions, gives you background on the vehicles and introduces you to the folks in charge. Its all about the cars. If owners are foolish enough to part with their classics for much less then they are worth then they have a problem. As for 180K for an older S Targa? Have you seen the prices on the longhood 911S cars? INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My 1973.5T is valued at half that and the only difference is the horsepower output and a few minor features that were all optioned out and could be ordered on the "T" and "E". |

They always say "you make your money when you buy it not when you sell it"
That show certainly provides him with a lot of exposure for his business, he gets paid to do his own advertising |

I saw him at Bohnams a coupe years ago. Couldn’t pick up on what he was selling but had a huge smile on his face.
I enjoy the show for what it is, entertainment. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

They showed the showroom condition sub 100 miles Nissian or Toyota pickup he speculated on.
It was interesting to see him gushing over that thing and no bidders were interested.

I saw that too and thought really?! I remember him making a cheesy hasty exit from the lady’s house. Shameful.

I didn't see the episode but I'd be really surprised that they would show Wayne taking advantage of an old lady and then flipping her car for three times the price. This is "reality" tv but we all know reality tv is not reality and they script and edit everything. It doesn't really make for good tv or ratings when you're ripping off old ladies.

Really?.... I don't want to defend Wayne but.... I am going to assume his relationship with Roger goes back a long long way and they're both okay with the way they treat each other. Saying he treats Roger like crap based on a few clips an episode is unfair.

Unfortunately these TV shows give credibility to some. He has a large following and I have a few friends that know him personally however based on cars I have judged at Concours events sold as original paint were far from great cars.
I hated showing the owners where the car had been painted, the overspray and poor bodywork showing through. The owner was so proud of it being an F40 car and purchased without PPI because he was buying the seller and his reputation. Don't trust anyone is all I can say. Some of the most well respected dealers I know of have been caught doing some shady things.
