84 Targa backdate pricing

I am moving to California and will have a hard time registering my hot rod with the mods I’ve done to it. So I am considering selling it. Its pretty much set up as a canyon racer. I know I’ll never get back what I put into it, but I’m curious what y’all think it would go for.

So it’s a 84 Iris blue targa which is the original color. It has about 164,XXX miles on the chassis. The engine was replaced with a rebuilt 3.2 euro spec engine. The engine has around 30k total miles and does not smoke or drip. 915 was rebuilt and has about 10k miles on it. This was all before I owned it. I have paperwork for both the engine build and the transmission build.

During my ownership I went a bit crazy. I changed the entire interior with light blue square weave carpet and light gray leather and blue stitching. Rs style door panels, and a bolt in rear cage, painted to match the car.

Backdate was finished earlier this year by a shop that specializes in fiberglass work. A complete glass out respray in the original iris blue. Fenders are steel, hood and front/rear bumpers are glass.

I’ll list the rest of the mods.
- M&K 3.2 headers and baffled GT3 exhaust
- Steve Wong chip tuned for 93 octane
- Stiffer front and rear torsion bars from ER (don’t remember exact sizes, it’s their streetable setup so stiff but not too harsh.)
- ER polybronze front control arm bushings
- Turbo tie rods and new ball joints
- The whole wevo 915 shift kit
- Black powder coated BBS RS with 24k Gold hardware. Just rebuilt.
- Refinished targa top
- New window/targa seals front and rear
- New speakers front and rear

There’s probably more I’m just forgetting. I have meticulously recorded everything from oil changes to gas mileage and have a 3 ring binder for every dime I’ve spent. Also have maintenance records dating back to early 90’s.

I think the interior looks nice. The exterior looks a little too "personalized" to appeal to a wide audience, but you can easily tone that down--remove the stickers, de-tint the windows, stick some Fuchs on it, revert to stock headlights...list it for $45k and see if you get any bites!

I have some 7/8 euromeisters and the original clear lenses for the headlights I can swap back on. The stickers are also easy to remove.

You know you have a nice ride when sticker mod come up as the only thing you might change.

Only thing easier is wheels.

Good luck with the sale.

Nice ride. I could nit pick some things, but they are really personal preference things, like deco and black door handles. $40-45k.

how modded is the engine? will it pass a visual if you were to put the stock exhaust on?

perhaps there is a way to get the car CA smogged. it is the correct motor for the car, and euro spec won't disqualify it. the exhaust and lack of smog gear would, but perhaps you can work that in, at least for smog.

you've put a lot into that car, would be a shame to have to sell it...

You're gonna add $10K to value with those Euromeisters as those wheels will be hideous to most. Remove those stone grates and go back to clear lenses as others said. You'd be killing thousands if you do not. It already has being a Targa against it. Not many people backdate a Targa so you may have an untapped audience there. Per usual, start high and you can always go down.

Fuchs or Euromeister Fakies are gonna bring this car back a long way and it will appeal to many.

Nothing done to the engine besides the chip. I would hate to have to shelve the M&K setup, though it looks like buying stock emissions parts would be the best route.

My car makes 227hp to the wheels with a wong chip and stock exhaust and passed emission no problem. CO has the same tailpipe standard as CA.

I like your car its a unique vision, and it screams sport purpose. I also like the black mesh BBS,
The frontal shot with the big rubber really shows well, and is extremely bad ass.

But in pursuit of the biggest return I reluctantly agree with the OP, set it up as a more conventional backdate, but include pics as is, and i think with the right write up you could get low 50's on BAT.

When you have a unique car with few comps, the best venue is typically an auction site. I would try BAT. You will likely find that buyer who wants just what you have. I am guessing $50,000 plus. Good luck and Happy Holidays.

That’s a great looking car! Those wheels have to go that’s it.
Add Fuchs and ask 50K plus

It’s already 3.2. Why go back on performance?

That is one of the many things about the vintage Porsche world that I just don't understand (not talking about you/your post specifically, as I have seen the "no window tint" sentiment expressed by many people on Pelican), as I think that 911s (all cars, actually) look much better with darkly tinted windows and their function is non-debatable, especially in hot climates (reduced sun and heat that is good for drivers, passengers and the interior in general, and not to mention increased privacy). One of the first things I do to any vehicle I buy is have the windows tinted (if they aren't already - very common here in TexAss).

I thought you were gonna say that the one thing you didn't understand was backdating an already slow Targa car - to make it look older and slower than it is.
