Sal, why so back and forth on this? One day the rarity demands a 30% premium and the next it might not be worth anything. Since when has anything scarce in the Porsche world not translated to a premium over its more common brethren?

From the sounds of the article there is no real way to prove the car. It seems that if you could come up with the insert that was slipped into the manual that any 1980SC could be a SC-L with this motor in it

That is a great question. I should have clarified, and that's what I said in the second post.

On my second post I was looking into the future, because now as of January 8, 2019 no one really cares about a limited 3.1 engine. I myself would not jump on it even if it were offered at the same price as a regular running 3.0, reason being that as of right now I don't care. However as history shows - people will.

Right now I stick at my 30% premium, though in today's dollars a 3.0 isn't worth much compared to other engines, so the difference in money isn't really much at all.

That could raise significantly over the course of time because there are not many "rare" SC variants. You see what happened to midyears. And you have seen what has happened to midyear Carreras (even US models). So if someone is looking for a rare SC then it could really happen. Unfortunately then, the car is missing so where does that leave you? In 2019, I am not sure.

I remember when you could buy a 4 cam in pieces or a core for $5k when I was in highschool in the '80s and I thought that was hilarious. Now look at them. You have to be in the Club to own one.

Time will tell on this one. But for right now it's more of a cool thing than a value thing. But in the future I bet on value.
