What's it worth: 79 Turbo interior

I have a complete leather interior out of a 1979 930 Turbo, including door pockets, armrests, window switches, electric window lifts, Center console (with switches), A and B pillar covers, etc, EXCEPT dash and headliner. It has the high-bolster sport seats, but I think all the Turbos had those.

It's all in very good condition, with no tears and minimal wear (I think it had about 36Kmi on it when the owner decided to make it a track car). Someone told me the color is brown, but it looks more like Burgundy to me. I haven't hauled it all out of the attic to take photos yet, and I know I need to do that before I post it for sale.

I planned to put the interior into my 1973.5 911T. However, recently I decided to stick with the original interior in the 911T and refresh it.

Do you think it's better to sell it complete, or part it out? I know the seats alone are pretty valuable, as well as certain interior parts, but I don't know about things like the rear side panels, rear seats/cover, insulation, sound deadening, and other stuff. What's your estimate and thoughts on how best to dispose? I'd also consider swaps for 1973 parts. I'm in the DC area. Thanks in advance.

I may be wrong but finding a buyer for all of it will be difficult.
And yes those seats are valuable. But if they are in a uncommon color that will slow the sale unless you lower the price. A recover is expensive.

He hasn’t listed a price, so how can you opine that it needs to be lowered? He’s merely asking people for their opinion on value.

While I can’t really speak to its value, if it were me, I’d prefer selling it as a package even if it meant taking less than piece mealing it out. That is a lot of work and packaging up and shipping, I’d rather see someone take it all at once even if it meant not quite getting as much. You also may end up stuck with some pieces if you start selling these off individually. Just my two cents.

I sold a complete tan leather interior with dash & carpet set for $3000 at Hershey this year.They were not sport seats but they were mint.I thought that was a little low.I had several calls on the set after I sold wanting to buy for asking price of $3500.What does it cost to recover a full interior?Fred

$4,500 to $5,000, which IMO is cheap for a complete interior.

Interior sale can be a complete toss-up.. in most cases no one needs the complete interior, but rather bits and pieces. However, sometimes you can move them complete.. depends on how long you want to hold on to it for that person that needs a complete interior swap.. and in my opinion, even then some of the numbers quoted could be a stretch. Sport seats of course are desirable and pull the prices up.

Also in some areas when you get into those numbers, those in need begin to look at recovering what they have. I'm in the DC area too, and depending on who you know, how you shop, you can get a lot of value out of $5k for interior recover.

Being that its from a 79 Turbo, its probably not burgundy. If it is, its not original to that car.

It was just a comment on the color and needing recovered. If they are the 79 and not the later 80 bolsters the seats alone are $2,500 needing upholstery. But you can get another $1,000 with good leather. But how many want Burgundy? So you're back to $2,500.00 to $3,000.00
If the rest of the interior is Burgundy you are going to wait longer for a buyer. If they are brown it could sell quicker. I guess dying everything black is an option. I think the whole thing could be worth $4,000.00-$5,000, like Fred said, if they are early sport seats.

I agree with you about burgundy, it’s a horrible interior color. I would want to change it as well, but some may actually want it. There was an ‘89 930 on BaT recently that turned into an all out bidding war, it sold for far more than it was worth - and yes it had burgundy interior. I was shocked. So maybe it needs to be discounted, maybe it doesn’t. We can agree that we’d both turn and run from burgundy interior though.

Thanks for the insights. I'll post some pics so you can tell me if it's brown or Burgundy. The carpets really look Burgundy, more than the leather. Then I'll throw it up in the For Sale section and see what happens. I'd really rather sell it all together, than part out the pieces.

Here are pics of the driver seat. No significant wear, except about 3" of stitching in seat bottom was unraveling so I trimmed and melted the threads to keep it from going further. Easy to fix. The passenger seat, door panels, rear seats and panels, center console, etc. in similar excellent condition.

That looks brown to me. I'd assme that there'd be a bit more interest in this than if it were burgundy.

Thanks for the reply. I put the floor mat next to the driver's seat to show that color. It's definitely not brown. Since I personally removed the interior from the car, I know this is what was installed in the car at the factory. There also was a maroon color in the 80's , but that is more reddish.

I don't know what color it is then, but it sure doesn’t look like burgundy. This is the BaT auction I was referring to with burgundy interior, your seat looks brown compared to this. Or at least some shade of brown, not a shade of red, as burgundy is.

My vote is that it is the correct factory brown leather and carpet. Seats look excellent. Checkout this 79 930. Same brown seats and brown carpet that has a slight burgundy tone. 1979 Porsche 930 | German Cars For Sale Blog

thamlin, thanks for the links. That is about what my interior looks like. I'll list it as brown, but with the caveat the the carpets look like dark Burgundy or dark maroon.

Those seats are nice! Look to be in really good condition. The whole set may sell just to get the seats.
If only it was all Cork color...

That looks (as far as a screen will tell you) like exactly the same color as my 1980 SC's interior, which is Brown.

I think you'll have a better chance of disposing it all as a set complete depending upon how complete it is .
The seats certainly look in good shape and are very desirable ..should you separate you'll be selling pieces of interior for ever.
I wish it were black I'm in DC and would be knocking on you door..haha Bert
