M491 Asking/Sale price....Harbinger?

I've been keeping an eye on 911 prices for some time, especially 80's Carreras, as this is what I think would look best in my garage. I'd really like a nice 87-89 G50 (M491!), but who wouldn't? Anyway, as I've seen even not so great looking M491 examples edge towards $100K, and way out of reach, I saw this on eBay.

https://www.beverlyhillscarclub.com/1986-porsche-carrera-targa-m491-widebody-c-9364.htm

Asking $44,500! That's quite a bit lower than recent for a nice looking, great color combo M491, even one with 175K miles on the clock. Is this a sign? or just an indication that there is something "different" about this particular car?

It may not be a factory M491. Might be an aftermarket conversion. Where's the paperwork? No VIN to do a Carfax on. No picture of the sticker showing option and color codes. It may even have a salvage title. If it seems too good to be true...

Or it may be because turbo prices have been drifting lower for some time now and turbo-looks are following them back down.

There is just not enough info to make any real judgement on the car. I wouldn't let it skew the market. Who knows if it even runs.

Beverly Hills Car Club gets good cars.

Occasionally.

There are independent brokers lurking there who snatch up the good ones before they hit the web site. What you see online is their picked-over hoopties.

I've had people send me to pPPI cars over there and it seems there's always something lurking that the camera didn't catch.

They have 2 993 C4S's which look like that would make nice DD cars but its so hard to tell much from their photos and I don't want to get into it with them and then have them call me and email me constantly.

They also have a green 89 coupe which looks decent. Their pictures just don't cover what you really need to see on the cars.

Absolutely agree - I stop in from time to time and the better cars are always "Sold" sitting on the side waiting to ship. The balance, even those that look good on line, all have substantial shortcomings that don't show in pictures. There is no substitute for seeing them in person - definitely would not buy one sight unseen.
