Thoughts on this BAT 911SC 3.6

Hi guys, this car has piqued my interest and I'd love to know your thoughts on what it might need and where it might end up closing at.

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1981-porsche-911sc-16/

I'm not overly concerned with the cosmetic issues they've pointed out (paint and mismatched interior), but much more so with the mechanics of the car, whether the conversion looks right, etc.

I think I remember an otherwise stock SC with a 3.6 selling on this board a few months ago for low $30s, so where do you guys think this may end up considering upgraded brakes, BAT hype, etc., and where does that fall vis a vis actual market value?

Thanks!

I think it ends up in the $50's.... its got a duck tail and carrera stripes and its selling on BAT.

Someones ex track car. Motor was rebuilt more than a decade ago? The trans even longer. Doesn't look that bad but you don't get to know.

The crowd there is asking a lot of hard hitting questions....

"fast930 8
seller, would you be kind enough to provide pictures of the rear seats and seat belts, thank you"

Lets see... Rust belt car, seems several different folks played with the motor and trans, color change , and many many other things that cause me to say, "does lipstick on a pig" sound familiar? The topper for me was the fact that they hung a $50 muffler on it!! Oh and one last thing. A used car dealer in Pennsylvania installed the motor.
I think Mr Trader 220 hit this one right on the head.

Dougherty Automotive who did the swap is a pretty well known Porsche specialty shop. I have no issue with them doing the swap but that was a long time ago. I don't know a thing about the shop that did the top end.

I saw the SC as well, if it clears a mechanical PPI I would be all over it, and I would practice extraordinary restraint not to refinish the body. If it checks out that car will be a blast to drive.

Trader220 you owe me a keyboard with your "hard hitting questions" comment, that was awesome!

Dougherty is well regarded in the local Porsche community and are known for doing a lot of track/race prep for what it's worth.

I believe I know this car. If it's the person I know (his name was Jay) I've seen it at MidOhio back in 2010 or 2011. No it's not a track car, he races a Spec Miata. Ran really well, very nice engine conversion work. And as I recall he's not a car dealer, but distributes trailers- enclosed race trailers and construction trailers thus the dealer license. Nice guy, nice car.

Agree with that. I would have a hard time letting go of the 86 @60K,knowing all that goes in to a 3.6 conversion, not to mention the ITB's /ECU and full suspension rework.

I closed on this one, just rings all the right bells. If I like it as much as I think will probably eventually sell my 82, although after almost 20 years that may prove too painful.

Walt,

congrats x 10.

My guess is you will very much enjoy that sleeper/monster.Mind the tranny for sure.

Pls start a thread once its in the driveway-keep us posted .
It will be interesting to hear your impressions.Especially which one sees the pavement more often ,once you get accustomed to the 3.6.

I didn't know you could stuff 993 calipers under 16" fuchs,if so ,great you will hv no problem stopping that puppy. When is your first track day

Walt, the fellow I know- Jay- owned that car until a year ago, so the BaT seller was the guy that bought the car from Jay. I first saw the car in 2010 at MidOhio, he had it there for a DE track weekend. We chased each other around, plus my BIL with his 993 powered SC for several days. Really well done 3.6 conversion and clean car. You’ll enjoy it. I’ll dig into my old video archives and see if I can find some video of the car on the track that weekend.

Walt, it's funny you mention that you have a 1982 for over twenty years that might be hard to sell.
I am a friend of the seller and really liked the 3.6 sc you bought, but my 1982 is in the seller's shop undergoing a recommissioning after mostly sitting for 10 years. It is my first Porsche purchased in 1996 and just can't part with it.
The car you bought drives awesome, looks great but isn't so nice you have to worry about a stone chip or two as well as having AC - the perfect driver in my mind.
I think if I had a "do over" I would have bought it before.
