Had I not bought mine way before the silly value bump, then I'd be right there with you. If my car got stolen, wrecked beyond repair, etc., I would not buy a replacement (aka - the market would have passed me by).

You can do the same with a 944. Maybe one of those is more your speed? A 951 or 968 is a great Porsche.

hey matt ? maybe vw is more your speed

SalParadise 03-13-2019 08:30 AM

I say if you're going to get flummoxed over the cost of an aircooled rebuild, maybe it's not your flavor of car.

The people that do not care are:

1) The people that can write the check for it and get it done

2) The people that want to do it themselves, over time, learn something and pay out half of what it cost to have someone do it. This is pretty much a 'pay as you play' way to go, but it's still gonna cost probably at least $10K nowadays.

The rest of the people sit back on the sidelines and grumble about what it costs for rebuilds and nit-pick a car to try to get it down in price.

My idea is this. Unless I know it's been done on the car by a reputable person with paperwork, then it's never been done - to my satisfaction. So it's gotta come apart, sooner than later. And when it comes apart, many other things need to come apart and need to be replaced.

If you cannot handle the money or time, it's a depressing place to be. There is no silver lining unless you have a relative who going to leave you a mint one in their will - but then here we go again - they are old cars and cost.

It was a genuine suggestion. You’ve been a bit of a troll since you showed up, but we are still here to help.

Huh? With $8k of mods you can make a 600hp Golf R that will last up to 60k miles?

Maybe he's been cyberstalking me. I'm daily driving a 2019 Sportwagen these days. I'm really enjoying it. I had to run to the doctor this morning and got to hoon a bit in this blizzard that just hit because the roads were empty and conditions were right for a rally run...

fxdp 03-13-2019 12:50 PM

cyberstalking ? nonono common man, just razzing back, all good
so you DO drive a vw? at least its not air cooled lol
