1971 911 engine size

I am in contact with someone who will be selling a 1971 911. Most articles say that they have have a 2.2 liter engine and some say 2.4. I am aware that the 2.2 was the common one and that 1972 was the year that the 2.4 was put in but were some of the 1971 models equipped with the bigger engine also?
Thanks

engine size for 71

2.2 was the size for 71 unless it was changed by the factory for something sportier like a 2.5.Fred

The seller could be confusing model year for production year.

Model year 1971 cars all had 2.2L engines (there were a very few factory specials, as Fred mentioned). But cars made in late 1971 for model year 1972 would have had the bigger 2.4L engine as standard equipment in one of T, E, or S form.

Get the vin and the engine serial number. That will answer it.

Mocker that makes sense. The difference between model year and production year, because I spent a few hours researching it and found both engine sizes listed as 1971. I haven't heard of a 1971 with the 2.4.

Transmission type for '71 was the 911 and for '74 was the 915. Look at the shift lever base
and shift pattern on the knob.

'72 also has one year only outside oil fill right side rear.
