Gas Explosion Damages Ingram Collection

A gas main blew in NC a couple hours ago next door to Road Scholars. If you watch the video they zoom in to the hole in the roof and you can see a 904 and 964 getting hosed off. So sad. I hope Kevin and all the staff are ok.

That f'in sucks.

speedster911 04-10-2019 02:39 PM

This is a heart breaker - hope everyone is physically OK.

JMS935 04-10-2019 02:43 PM

Woah! That’s why I tend to aim high with agreed value when insuring my collection. Hopefully they have proper coverage, which I’m sure they do, but damn does that suck.

Kevin Watts no longer affiliated with Road Scholars. That's the "Ingram Collection" on North Duke Street.
Road Scholars is at 1704 Page Road Ext. Durham NC 27703.
Nonetheless, there is a lot of carnage inside.

That sinks.
What is it with Porsche collections and fire?
About 5 years ago a building in Sacramento with a rare Porsche Collection burned down. Lost the pinnacle of RSRs in that one.

Didn’t know that. I haven’t directly supplied them with any parts in a few years now, and when I say a few it’s likely at least half a dozen.

I lived near this when it went down. You could see the smoke for miles. I walked by the burned out hull for years on my way to school. They even left some of the cars there. It was really sad.

I believe someone died...... a one of one......

The gas explosion killed one person

Several years ago I was invited to the Ingraham Collection. I had a very nice evening with Bob and his wife, and enjoyed their deep passion for the marque. My heart goes out for the losses, human and Porsche.

One dead, six in critical care. They are still searching the wreckage. It’s tragic.

a fellow PRC racer lost his GTL car and an very original SWB S in that fire. he got mid six figures for the S from his insurance, and around $50K for the racecar. he could not replace the S, but with the proceeds he bought a fully built, set up GTL car he still races from time to time.

Owner of the Coffee Shop was killed, he refused to leave his restaurant and the Firefighter was just about to get help from the police officer outside but was too late.

Firefighter might have been killed if he stayed behind a few seconds longer.
Would have been a lot worse if nobody noticed the smell of the gas leak.

^^^What an idiot. That’s Darwinism right there for you, too stupid to realize his life was at risk.

GothingNC 04-12-2019 09:33 AM

Looks like all is not lost in the collection.

Among his last acts was a post to social media, letting potential customers know Kaffeinate would be closed for the day. His post went live at 10:05. At 10:07 the building exploded.
On the Kaffeinate Instagram page, Lee's children said Lee called to tell them there was a gas leak and said he would close the shop and put a sign outside."He was just making sure everyone was out, everyone was okay, and he was doing his job," said Jennifer Oldham, owner of a nearby business. "We're just heartbroken for that family and his children."
