Early Mag 915 Mechanical Speedo Value

I'm a virgin to the For Sale market, so I'm looking for value help. This was taken apart to replace a leaky input shaft seal, and while at it, replace whatever else was needed. I was going to try to rebuild it myself, but I found a pro-rebuilt 915 at a good price to replace it, so this one will be for sale. The bad: a broken 1-2 slider The good: it happened 25,000 trouble-free miles ago,
and I have a replacement slider. The trans has a known history back to '84 and has over 40,000 road-trip miles with me. Since it's apart (and complete) I have many pics and can take more. Thoughts? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1555548206.jpg

What is the type number? Serial number?

Matt Monson 04-22-2019 02:43 AM

Pics don’t show condition of ring and pinion. That’s a hell of a chunk out of the shift hub in that one close up!

Mike O'Meara 04-22-2019 05:47 AM

Numbers on cases are 915.301.101 OR and 915.301.102 OR Most of the serial number is worn off, pics below. The chunk came off in one piece and stuck to the magnetic drain. Pic 2 has chunk in place where it broke off. It happened over 10 years and many miles ago at an autocross with an ill-advised downshift to first gear. No more autocrosses since! Here are some more pics.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1555940435.jpg

Is this out of your 72?

Mike O'Meara 04-22-2019 06:20 AM

Yes, Matt, but not original to it. I have a receipt from Peter Fischer Motors in Chicago dated 1984 stating it was a replacement to the original. It has been in my car for over 40,000 miles.

Matt Monson 04-22-2019 06:40 AM

Then I would say $1500-2000. There is some wear on the root of the pinion head and a 72 case doesn’t have a removable guide tube on the case. Whomever buys it will likely harvest it for Parts and not reuse the main case as a result.

Thanks, Matt. Yes, that damned guide tube issue!
