Factory Non-Sunroof 911SC Question
Does a US delivered non-sunroof car actually bring a premium, or are they just more desirable?
It isn't a "collector" condition car, it's definitely just a driver. |

Doesn’t more desirable typically equal more money?

Is it a low option car? No sun roof/no fog lights/driver side mirror only/bright work trim? Some buyers like that and will pay a premium.

It won't make a $28k driver into a $38k driver but you may get a small amount more for the unusual lack of options on a US car.

Non-sunroof cars are sought after for buyers looking at roller projects for use as a track car. (less weight up higher, which is beneficial for a race car.)
Otherwise for a daily driver, there might be a small premium paid for someone that just doesn't want the sunroof and its possible issues/hassles.

More helmet room and lighter weight gives it a little premium over a sunroof car. Maybe a couple of grand or so.

Non sun roof plus a desirable color and you are doing pretty good when it comes time to sell.

A better conditioned car trumps non sunroof car all day long.

I looked for an SC without a sunroof when I picked mine up 10 years ago. They are few and far between and I never found one.
I would have paid a few thousand more for a non sunroof SC (or even more for a rarer non sunroof Carrera 3.2), but ended up with a common high option ‘82 because it was in nice shape. After nearly 40 years, not surprisingly, the sunroof does not work properly. I special ordered an M3 (e46) 14 years ago without a sunroof. They now seem to bring a slight premium as most were high option cars with sunroofs and other stuff (nav, power seats, etc.). I think if most any series of classic car has an option that was rarely installed (or not installed) it might bring a premium. 356’s with sunroofs are uncommon and seem to bring a premium, whereas late G series 911’s were usually ordered with sunroofs and bring a bit more without one. |

That depends on who's buying; I don't have a hardon for guards red, but would definitely take it over any number of the foo foo, fecal, and geezer colors that many people seem to think are so sweet on vintage 911s.

![]() Geezer colors are ones that look like old tighty whities who's owner always skimps on the bleach (chiffon, whites with gray hues in them, "off whites" etc), shrubbery colors (certain, plant-like greens), and yellows that look like something an oldy might puke up after having his morning oatmeal and orange juice. Yer welcome!!! |

I'm selling a non-sunroof 78 at the moment.
It's very rare, as most SCs that came into the US had a 'minimum spec' from the importer. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/1029757-1978-911sc-non-sunroof-coupe.html

A lot of people still saddle a Euro imported car with a ding to value. Grey market has been a dirty word for years. I don’t personally subscribe to this but many still do.
Slicktop does bring a little more money.

I think labeling 'gray market' as bad was just a great PR move by the importer, who wanted his cut.

Oh, it absolutely was. It's just a stigma that hasn't washed off, especially with many new people in the market who don't know the difference between the two cars.
